Obviously, Kaa put the rattle on as a disguise so noone would know he was Kaa until it was too late. Possibly a hypnotic rattle. So simple.

For some reason the idea of Kaa with a hypnotic rattle makes me think he's preparing for the fact that hypnotic eyes can't have any effect on a blind person since they can't see them. Which brings the words "<<bleach.wikia.com/wiki/Kaname_T%C5%8Dsen|Tosen Contingency>>" to mind, and I don't know if that term has ever been used before.

On that note... during Kenpachi vs Tosen, how the fuck can Tosen tell Kenpachi's smiling?

Also, good point about Kaa preparing himself to hypnotize those who can't see his eyes, not just the blind, but those who know to never look.
