I barely watched Code Lyoko, so I'm still trying to understand if XANA is a person or a computer virus or something. He/she/it/zhe still seems to have a lot of mind controlling abilities though...

Basically XANA is an AI designed for the military that went rouge, so it is more a person than a virus. A person bent on world domination or destruction, I'm not entirely sure which myself

It's very difficult to tell because XANA rarely if ever spoke directly. Most of its personality is inferred from its action...
Though if I had to guess, it was bent on destroying the humans and conquering Earth.
