So, is it meaningful that Terra turns pink too?

One error has thrown me completely off this picture, hot as it is.

FFIV uses Magicite, not Materia.

Really? I played the Original and I think they were just referred to as Espers. On the Phone app, I believe they called them Materia, and, in the crossover games I've played, Terra refers to it as Materia. I don't know if it's accurate in the crossovers, but, that's what I went with.

Espers were the race, magicite is what's left when they die. I guess maybe later media retconned but poking about the FF wiki I don't see any mention of it [and the word was used again in other games after 7 so it'd be an odd move, tbh.]

Yeah, this is correct. FFVI uses Magicite, the remnants of dead Espers. Materia is the stuff from FFVII that was...uh...made from the planet's energy or something? I haven't played that one other than a tiny bit, never even got out of Midgar, so I really don't know the FFVII lore.

if you wanted to go deep into the lore you'd find out that those crystals all come from the same source.. materia magicite, spheres... all of them.

Um, not quite. All the game's whose plots revolve around Crystals (excepting FF13) take place in the same universe, but that's about it.

Actually, if we ignore Dissidia, most of them from 6 onwards don't really have anything to do with crystals.
