The Hylian text says "I obey master."

Maybe there should be a * next to the text, with the translation written in small font in a corner.

Wow... the Kasuto version of Hylian... haven't seen that one in ages. Not since I was fan-novelizing Ocarina of Time. The text does, literally, read "I obey master" in the Kasuto version, but that's not really proper Hylian. Kasuto created the language as an alphabet, making some new symbols that aren't canonical to the Nintendo scripts at all, and if you look up Ancient Hylian you'll see you can't read this at all. You can sort of get some of the symbols, but it's total gibberish. Which is a shame...

I will look into the Kasuto.net forums and see if there is any way to translate it, but I can say:

1) The first word, using Kasuto's form of Hylian, should be "bagu" meaning "I".

2) The official lessons and dictionary on the site do not have any word for "obey," nor for any single-word synonyms (serve, follow). It could be worked around by saying "do what [master] says" which would be "Sa dans kEm [master] Jatas" which still leaves us one word to translate...

3) Master is an interesting case -- the only "Master" in the dictionary in sEnSi (sënshi) meaning a teacher or master of an art or a craft. This cannot be used as a standalone word in Kasuto's form of Hylian, it is only a suffix to be attached to a name! So can we find something else? As a matter of fact, we can, and it is a standalone word, but it's not specifically paired to "master" in the dictionary. The word is "kuzO" meaning "sir" or "mister" in English. In english, "mister" is just a weakened form of "master" which suggests that maybe, for our purposes, we can make a functional solution:

The Hylian font from Kauto's website is case sensitive for some variant letters, so typing in, "bagu Sa dans kEm kuzO Jatas" will produce words that literally translate as, "I must do what sir speaks." It's fair to assume that this could be a valid way to say "I obey Master," and I want to keep this post intact for reflection on my reasoning. I will also look on the forum for the site and see if the Forum members ever added any useful words for a more accurate translation, but after 2-3 days, that's what I've come up with.

EDIT:
Also, a quick machine translation and processing suggests the proper Hylian for the N64 games would produce this:

drive.google.com/file/d/0...OY0ZpY2c/view?usp=sharing (reads "watashi wa masutaa ni shitakaimasu").

If you would like to edit this text in, I can provide an Illustrator or SVG file, depending on which you can better work with.

Oh, I know, and agree. It's the sort of intellectual challenge that does engage me, though. I had fun trying to figure out what it would look like in "proper" Hylian.

twilightL brings up a good point. Maybe you have no plans to change it at this point, but I may make a few child manips from this, with the text presented in various forms of Hylian ;) Maybe each form we've seen so far, plus the proper translation I worked out for Kasuto's version. They'll probably go up this weekend if I do make them.

I've uploaded two version -- "Hylian 64" and "Kasuto.net" translations of the text. They should both be posted as children of this, and are both lower resolution renders of a manip from the original source image.
