one of my principal problems with the original series is exactly that element, the anime was constantly introducing new characters and the more they apear, the older ones just got obsolete and useless, Master Roshy, Bulma, and others that were key characters before, became just the clowns in the background.

I think they wanted to make the DBZ series have less perverted master Roshi scenes
