Hmm need new names for these two lovely mimes! Thinking Batmime for our former Barbara Gordon but unsure about her partner the former Zatanna! Any backstory thoughts?

Well, for a backstory, you need a villain(ess) or an event to turn at least Zatanna into what we see here.

Off the bat... we have Image's <<comicvine.gamespot.com/jessica-mime/4005-65767/|Jessica Mime>>. Just put her in the DCU and maybe extend her powers of being able to create mimed constructs by having the twirl of her finger be the miming of a hypnotic spiral.

Looking further into it, there is actually a DC villainess, <<comicvine.gamespot.com/the-mime/4005-30250/images/|The Mime>>, real name Camilla Cameo, whose actually gone against Batman, but lets face it... Jessica Mime's look suits a LOT better. One approach to adapt it might be to combine the two, with the alias being 'The Mime' and real name Jessica Cameo, and the design much closer to Jessica Mime. Or something like that

My suggestion for a redesign would be for the mohawk to instead of being spiky instead be combed over to one side to look much more lush, and for her to have very short hair on the sides instead of being bald. Other than that, the pink outfit can have its colors boosted + stripes to be more appealing, or perhaps can just ditch the colors and go traditional as seen above with Zatana and Bat Girl. Other than that, her overall persona could be sly and mischievous, yet a dom at heart to pull everything together. :3

I'd like to think that the method of this transformation was the mime who did this swirled their finger around like a spiral and in Zatanna and Batgirl's minds, they ended up seeing a black and white spiral in front of them x3
