Ok soooo... there's a LOT to unpack, but essentially, Mind Control was hinted at every now and then through out the story of the games. Its just that, according to the anime, Mind Control is effectively the real cause of everything in the entire franchise, save Junko's decision to go for despair. No character actively chooses a path of despair, and now nobody is allowed to choose hope either.
I never thought I would hate mind control so much in anime.
