I think all the name changes are pretty stupid... This was barely understandable in the 90s, when internet was less widespread, but nowadays there's no reason to americanize foreign characters names.
People are more used to see stuff from other cultures so the usual reasoning names are changed to make it easier for the average american kid to understand (which to me is the same as saying kids are too retarded to understand the existence of other languages) falls flat.
