I thought the bottom looked empty eyed, and based off of the description by the artist that seems to be the case. Unfortunately, the image doesn't seem to get any bigger to see it clearer.

It's really hard to see the MC in this, even if I download the image and zoom in on the eyes of the sub.

But it's still there. The eyes are indeed empty.

Hm...

Between the hard-to-notice-but-still-existent empty eyes and the source confirming the MC, I'll just let this slide.
