Kya nodded, accepting the temple's offer of free quarter. Just for a night, she thought, looking at the beautiful priestess and her sweet smile. A laugh so loving and genuine, with eyes that gave such a warm invitation Kya couldn't help but to smile in return. Maybe two nights. The priestess led Kya to one of the halls, offering a meal in exchange for a chance to talk for a little while. Kya looked her in the eyes, and saw no reason to refuse. Over dinner, the priestess spoke of nature and her goddess. The goddess loved flowers, it seemed, and when the priestess asked her favorite Kya answered with no hesitation. Lilies, Kya said, and the priestess nodded, her grin widening as she continued. The goddess, she said, was all loving, all accepting. Anyone could serve the goddess, and she would love them all the same. Kya listened intently, seeing the priestess' face light up as she spoke, her smile one of true happiness. It was normal to get lost in that smile, wasn't it? To see someone so overjoyed at finding their place, knowing their purpose, and be glad for them? Kya nodded as the woman told her of the goddess and of the wonder of nature, speaking well into the night. Eventually, however, the priestess led Kya to a small room and showed her to the bed where she could rest.

During the night, Kya awoke to the sound of someone entering her room. Her eyes still closed, Kya heard them place an object on the table next to her. Soon a familiar scent filled the room, something Kya knew but did not quite remember. Something wonderful. Something sweet. She began to stir, her thoughts muddled by sleep and half remembered dreams, but was stopped by a quiet voice. "Shhh," the voice said in the darkness. "Go to sleep, pretty kitten." Kya laid back down, never opening her eyes. The sweet smell was so nice, and the voice so warm and comforting. It felt so good. How could she disobey them? "Yes, go back to sleep," the voice urged, and Kya drifted off, smiling happily in her dreams.

In the morning, Kya got up slowly. She felt amazing, and everything around her seemed so wonderfully fuzzy, moving quickly around her. Or was she just moving slowly? It didn't seem to matter. A fuzzy figure helped her up while she muttered something about falling asleep in her armor, and led her to a chair. They helped her sit down, and guided her gaze to the vase sitting on the small table next to her. The large lily inside the vase caught Kya's attention immediately. She looked at the beautiful flower, breathing in its scent and listening to what the voice told her. It was so easy to just watch and listen, even if Kya felt so pleasantly sleepy. It was so easy to breathe in. To breathe out. Every breath brought her more of that sweet smell, the delicious aroma filling her being. It was so easy to listen to what the voice told her. The voice spoke of how wonderful the goddess was, and how much she loved her faithful.

The voice told her of the goddess' sweetness, and to simply breathe in. Breathe out. To let the love of the wonderful goddess envelop her and comfort her. Kya thought of how pleasant it would be to love the goddess, to worship the goddess. How pleasant it would feel to be loved in return. Breathe in, breathe out. The divine sweetness swirled around her, and inside her as she breathed. In, and out. The wonderful goddess, the loving goddess, filled Kya with her alluring warmth and that sweet smell. Kya was dimly aware of the warmth of others, of being surrounded by not only the love of her beautiful goddess, but the love of her faithful. Others like her, who would breathe in, and breathe out. Others who would love her, and be loved. She felt that love enter her, and she knew the name of her perfect goddess. Kya smiled with true joy, in the way of someone that had found their place. Their home.

--

Kya shook her head, declining the offer. The temple didn't feel like the place for her. She'd just rent a room at the inn.
