[spoiler]Luna Loa is one of the main cast of Lunar: The Silver Star, a fantasy JRPG. Luna is the childhood friend of Alex, a guy who idolizes a legendary hero and wants to be a Dragonmaster just like him (Dragonmasters are essentially adventurers who visit the four Dragon Guardians of the land, doing quests to aid those in need in exchange for the Guardians' blessings, which consists of magical power and legendary items/equipment.). Events happen, and Alex and Luna begin their journey together so Alex can achieve this goal.
At some point during their journeys, they meet Galleon, who was another of the four legendary heroes. Except Galleon is later revealed to be doing bad stuff because his motivations are to rule the world and usher in a new age where his rule wipes out all strife (he goes lawful evil, in a nutshell, but only because he views the old way of doing things as stupid and the cause of suffering, never mind that he's causing suffering as well. :P). As part of those aims, he kidnaps Luna, who is actually the mortal reincarnation of the goddess Althena (and a symbol of everything he despises) and brainwashes her, using her magic singing abilities to bring about calamity. The first time this happens, Alex arrives, and she starts resisting the mind control, so later, Galleon just pushes the brainwashing further until she becomes Dark Althena here.[/spoilers]
I won't say anything else, since that's the explanation for this, as well as the fact that I figure if you guys are interested in knowing more, you'll either look up the rest or play the game yourselves. It's a pretty solid JRPG: the series is heavily underrated and has a cult following, though the third entry in the game, Lunar: Dragon Song, wasn't well received due to the writing not being as good and some game mechanics that made the game unnecessarily difficult. But Lunar: The Silver Star and Lunar: Eternal Blue should be easy to find and play for free or cheap. If you do emulate it, I'd recommend getting the PSX ports of both games, as those tend to be the best in quality and difficulty, as well as providing some features that the original Sega CD versions of the games didn't provide. Silver Star is also on PSN as a PSP port, so if you have a Vita, you can take that option as well.

I played this game before I became fully aware of my hypnofetish. I wasn't comfortable playing around others because of how uncomfortable these parts made me feel
I haven't problems with evil Luna but when I saw emotionless Luna I said "game, why do you do this to me?" >_>

I had that but it was stolen. What a sad day that was. That swag was so cool. I hope I can provide tons of stuff like that for Overwhored.

There's also Magic School, but that never got translated and supposedly wasn't that great anyway.
Also I advise against the gameboy adaptations. They mess up the story. Lunar 2 on the Sega CD also had some neater dungeons and scenes that were abstracted in the PSX remake but man, who is gonna bother playing the Sega CD version when there's so many others out there?
It's a shame this isn't more widely known. I basically wanted Overwhored to be Lunar 3 in a lot of ways and one day I do want to make a SFW Lunar 3 type spiritual successor.
