Can someone give me advice to get better, or at least provide a higher quality spiral image?
Mmm.. I could say how I make the spirals: I blush eyes or recolor them, after I make more layers and there I drawing or paste spirals. Finally I work on the layer (gimp) to mixing the single layers.
(Sorry, I don't speak english very well so I can't explain better ç_ç )

While I'm not an expert, I have some advice:
First, resize. If necessary and possible, resize the spiral for the smaller eye in the image - making the image smaller for the smaller eye. This takes practice and a few tries before it works out.
Second, coloring. In a Black and White spiral (like this one), make sure the eye lash-esque part of the anime character's eyes isn't connected to black spiral in the eye spiral - it helps emphasize the spiral itself.
Third, Coloring Two: Color Replacement Boogaloo. Feel Free to try different color combinations for spirals. Fairly easy in Photoshop, but there ARE some the are flat enough in colors for MS Paint.
4th, assets. It also helps to keep the image in mind. No one specific thing, but a basic sterile black and white spiral doesn't always work.
fourth + ONE: Animation. If possible, five it a shot.
Six: Shading. Adding shading to the eyes literally adds depth to the eyes.
Lucky Number 7: Limited Editing. Every not and then, only add spirals to the pupils itself. It can give the idea that they're still being hypnotized as we look at it.
Eighth: Opacity. Similar to the shading, if possible.
Naughty Number Nine: Others. You'd be surprised how often trying something other than spirals can result in a better image.
10N: Combination. Be sure to combine what I've said here.
While I can't promise greatness, I hope these tips help. Good luck, m8!
