Water is clear first of all.
well in larger quantities its blue and when you imagine water the ocean or some kind of body of water comes to mind first (at least for me) then I think of bottled/tap water. You're not wrong, but the image isn't either.
EDIT: or green if we're going for swamps, brown if it's muddy. You could also make the argument that it's any color it reflects.
EDIT#2: Or you could make the argument that it's just the light that makes it blue, but if we were going to talk about light we'd be here all day. Light reflection being what we see and all.Or you know, color blind people. Or there is the possibility that my blue isn't the same blue as you. And you know some people see peanut butter as green.
