Not really. Not as confusing as Xenoblade. It's got a unique and rather bizarre combat system and waaaaaaaaay too many rules to the combat that the tutorial doesn't adequately explain. Bravely Default? Not confusing. Final Fantasy (at least the earlier ones)? Not confusing. But Xenoblade? Yes.

say what you will about the combat, but the plot is fucking amazing.

Well, it is in the first game at least. Great as it mechanically, XBCX kinda falls short on alot of the story and artistic elements compared to XBC1.

yeah i've heard a lot about that. i'm on chapter 9 and so far the story is good imo, but at this point i expect something will fall short eventually.

The game ends on a cliffhanger, and clearly sets itself up for a continuation.
