After making about 20 different manip versions of this image, this is the one I finally settled on as being the best. I'm still not happy with it, but I don't think that I'll be able to do anything better, so I hope you enjoy.
Regarding the flag for removing the artists watermark. I'm not meaning to take away credit from the artist, I sourced the original image after all, I just honestly thought that the water mark on this particular image was really just obnoxiously large. I removed it becuase I thought the image looked better without it, that being said I still sourced the image and gave the artist a tag. I intend to give full credit to R3Dfive, but I'm sorry if removing the watermark made it not come across that way.

you could have resized it rather than removing it completely

Removing it would have been easier. Resizing it you'd have to remove it, fill in where it was removed, then put it back and then scale it down. Removing it is just remove it and fill in the space. At least, that's how I'd do it, but maybe I do everything the hard way.
Definetely, this kind of stuff is the reason why people like Jimryu put the DeviantArt watermark above their picture - so people cant edit it out. Whats the point in a watermark if people remove it anyways?

That's actually a really good idea that I'll keep in mind for the future, because I didn't even think about that as an option.

I would just like to point out that you can still edit watermarks out when they're over the top of an image, granted it takes a longer and is more tedious but it's not impossible. In fact if I'm going to be completely honest here I would be more likely to edit those out because they get in the way of the actual image even more than normal watermarks.

I'm kind of with this, I think, since usually there's a reason people put a watermark on their image...

To the flagger we don't really have a rule against that.
We should, though.
