And that's the end of the series, and also the end of me posting for a bit. I've told the story I wanted to, and have stuff here for people to enjoy and/or complain about because they don't like lobotomies and have to declare their hatred of them on every post that has one. Not that I'm bitter or anything. Hope you enjoyed the series.
He gazed up at the enormous face. Forty years it had taken him to learn what kind of smile was hidden beneath the dark moustache. O cruel, needless misunderstanding! O stubborn, self-willed exile from the loving breast! Two gin-scented tears trickled down the sides of his nose. But it was all right, everything was all right, the struggle was finished. He had won the victory over himself. He loved Big Brother.

Oh man, this really is like that. Except... this is an institution that does this for money. This is Capitalist 1984. Unless the Institute secretly controls everything already. Then it's like the opposite of the theory that Oceania is actually a Hermit Kingdom relegated to Britain. Then it's just 1984, but with lobotomies.

Yeah, the Institute doesn't control everything. It just sort of does the whole lobotomy/correction/whatever stuff for folks who ask. And I never considered 1984 when I came up with the ending, but, holy crap, they are quite alike. I hate accidentally ripping off important pieces of literature. I mean, the names being somewhat taken from "120 Days of Sodom" was on purpose at least.
