Pretty sure that being a hollow makes Nel immune to this power, but more Nel stuff is always good, so I won't complain.

So uh...Giselle is...male.

At least biologically.

The story never goes indepth on it, but it's possible that Giselle is trans, as they react very harshly to being called male.

So Kubo confirmed Giselle is male, however considering they're constantly referred to as female by (most) characters it's implicit they're trans.
