Honestly, this whole scenario kinda just "squicked" me out. Crump is a grown man in his, what, 40s? 50s? And yet, he's coveting the body of a girl whom is only 16 years old and has yet to even finish High School (so at least by American legal standards, she's still technically a "child", since in America you aren't legally an "adult" until you turn 18), and he very clearly had rather "perverse" intentions had he actually managed to successfully steal her body. If that's not "dark" or unsettling, I honestly don't know what is.

You know, it just now occurs to me... Crump might be gay. I'm sure that's a very important theory that fans will debate for eons to come...

Based on some of Crump's lines, I highly doubt it. He sounded more like he wanted to "use" her body for himself. Honestly, that was probably one of the darker moments in Yugioh history. And then there's the case where, in "Season 0", if not for Yami/Atem's intervention, Tea/Anzu would have wound up getting raped.

Actually, that's only the age of consent in California.

No, I'm pretty sure that in every US State, you can get hit with a Statutory Rape charge for having sexual relations with someone under the age of 18 while you are over the age of 18. Maybe I'm wrong, I don't have time to really look it up myself right now, but in any case my point still stands whether the Age of Consent is 18 or 21.

To be fair, 16 year olds in anime seem to have bodies that are as developed as a 21 year old. (kind of annoying how that is, in some anime you get characters with HUGE tits, and wide hips, made to be explicitly tantalizing with adult body proportions and then they just write 14 into the age stat because fuck it why not)

Though, I feel like the larger point of the appeal on his end probably comes from the whole "Going from a body that's getting age problems and is a few decades away from kicking it, to a young healthy body with lots of time left" aspect of the situation.

It varies state by state, some of them are as low as 16. CP laws are all 18 tho, which is kinda weird when you think about it
