Whether it's a problem with my browser or a problem with this site, the auto-fill options for tagging don't come up when I originally upload the image; I have to edit it after the fact to get them to show. And I always have to rush in order to make my introductory response before someone beats me to it, so that takes priority ;-)

Auto-tag never shows up on the initial upload (at least it never did for me)

you can tag an easy tag then tag hide to hide the post from the index then after upload is complete you can tag then un-hide the post, that's what i do when i upload.
