I was really hoping Rinoa would show up in 3 since 2 hinted at her with Squall's letter in the credits. That and a conclusion to Cloud and Seph's clash. Ultimecia would fit in WAY too well too.

Instead, we get no FF characters and Namoura stating that a FF and Disney crossover doesn't really need FF anymore. Yeah, sure, okay. Which is why that secret ending TOTALLY doesn't imply you still need the Square half of the bargain.

Sigh.

Eh, I personally wasn't that bothered with it due to all the FF characters in previous KH games feeling more like cameos that could've been replaced with KH original characters with little impact.

At least the FF characters have relevance to the main story in a small degree. Outside of the Mickey crew and one or two others, Disney is honestly just as pointless.

Hell, the "main" Disney characters are even more easily replaced with OG Kingdom Hearts characters.

Well, all of the characters could be easily replaced with KH OC. The things they lived in their games & movies doesn't matter to the main story.

You could tell me about Cloud & Sephiroth, but that's just a side story that doesn't have anything to do with the main story. It could as well just not be here.

I wish it would be like that, by the way - just a game with original universe & characters, but I guess it wouldn't have worked the same.

The problem there is that if the Disney part was dropped a lot more of the charm would be lost and the game would essentially just be "Final Fantasy: ARPG Edition". Whereas dropping the Final Fantasy characters doesn't do that as much as the KH original characters pretty much fill that void for a big part.

Though I suppose my opinion might stem from me never really giving a fuck about the FF side since the beginning. Maybe I would care if there were actual FF based worlds, but since EVERY FF character pretty much has their origins in Hollow Bastion/Radiant Garden or Twilight Town (KH original worlds) I can't shake the fact that Final Fantasy has ALWAYS had the backseat compared to Disney.

I have no real connection to FF and I'm still bummed, taking on Sephiroth in KH1 was one of the most intense, blood pumping things i've experienced in a game for looooong time.

Also, still hoping this'll be DLC, or maybe KH4, but like, Sword in the Stone world, Gilgamesh, the money prints itself.

I miss the FF characters too their absence removes a novelty from the game that was just soo core to selling point of the franchise. Despite how the script ultimately downplayed their role, having a battle where cloud and squall are fighting back to back while mickey mouse avenges goofy's "death" was radical, and a decade ago it made a bunch of teenager really pumped. And while at this point the KH characters have an involved fanbase all their own, the absence is still noticeable. seeing moogles in a game with no FF characters is weird. signs are pointing towards a future game maybe having more square enix properties in it, (it kinda looks like Nomura is using kh as a way to get a the world ends with you sequal off the ground.) soo maybe they aren't gone for good. People say that the minor roles, don't matter. But it's those roles that add meaning for a lot of people, you might not notice the bass in your favorite songs, but remove it and something feels off.
