It's something that just kind of pops up out of nowhere in the last hour of the game. I guess the writers spent so much time on Team Yell, they forgot until the last minute to add real bad guys.

I'm not gonna spoil what they try to do, but I will say that what's happening in this pic probably would have made more sense than what they went with.

Actually they didn’t come in at the last minute. They just waited till the end of the game to reveal their true intentions. However they are there throughout the whole game. You just weren’t paying attention.

Maybe, but there's still a difference between suddenly revealing a character was in on the evil plan vs suddenly revealing there was an evil plan in the first place. When other groups like the Aether Foundation or the real Team Plasma made their big reveal, it meant something because the story had been building up to it.

But with Macro Cosmos, the reason you don't see it coming is because there is almost nothing to look into. The main villain has no clear motive or goal until literally fifteen minutes before the boss fight, and the sequence of events in their plan just kind of jumps from "pay a kid to gather shiny rocks" to "harness the power of an elder god" with barely anything in between. It's almost like watching the "Step 4: Profit" meme in action.

The whole Macro Cosmos Team name does come out of nowhere even I did have a double take when that trainer name came out. Of course you know there is shenanigans happening in the background of the story I honestly didn't think their would be an evil team in the normal sense. Either way these two getting brainwashed is a win hehe~~~
