This is the kinda thing that makes me want to watch RWBY finally. To see if these girls have personalities that I like behind them... extra hot.
RWBY stands out because while you can certainly spot familiar tropes in the characters, it has some strong things going for it that are unusual. It combines eastern and western tropes, takes those combinations in some unusual situations, and most importantly hits the ground running with character development.
All of that said, it has some rough points. There are moments where it waffles from rational fight duels to full on rule of cool shenanigans. The episode lengths vary, and a lot of the world building is left out of the core show and put in "world of remnant" shorts. And then, between season three and four, the show's creator and one-man-band director suffered creator existence failure and roosterteeth had to hire a whole staff to continue the show, with mixed results. There are some real rough bits in terms of story in seasons four and five, and the animation changes radically.
All of that said, RWBY is a good experience. If you like stories with good characterization as seems to be the case from your comment, RWBY strongest writing is in it's solid and fun characters and how they interact. I'd recommend the first season or two just to see if you'd enjoy it, and as one of the early ground-up internet animated shows it's worth taking a peek for the sake of the history of it.

The redhead in the picture is a bit too serious for my tastes.
The blonde is the type to neglect studying, ditch her responsibilities, and she really loves to wail on enemies with her fists. My kind of girl.

I recommend it. Although the animation the first three seasons isn't...great. But it does get better as the series goes on.

I kinda have the opposite opinion. While the newer animation is more polished, its also pretty rubbery. Things compress to allow movements. I miss the combat in the old animation, because it felt really kinetic and unforgiving.
