First of all, I didn't even know Disney was making a live action/CG hybrid Jungle Book movie. Second of all, they're making Kaa a female now?! And trying to get Scarlett Johansson to be the voice to boot. Part of me feels like this is wrong, the other part of me now has tighter pants.

I was pretty shocked as well. The producers probably saw her performance in Under the Skin.

Now, I haven't really done any research on this new movie, but there's always the chance it will be more like the book than the Disney movies. Remember that in the book Kaa's hypnotism only worked on animals, and the only quote in the article referencing Kaa's power is "Johansson is in earlier stages of talks to voice the character of Kaa, the python who eats other animals by hypnotizing them". Now, the "other animals" part in that doesn't necessarily mean that there will be no Mowgli hypnosis, but who knows. All that said, it does say that this is a "Disney-based project", so I'll continue to hope for the best until I know better.

Now, who wants to hear Ms. Johansson sing "Trust in Me"?
