Any chance at getting webm support?
So, after having decoded the mysteries of animating via GIMP with my second animated manip (the first was done layer by layer, manually), and exporting to lower-res gif to save file size, I decided to see about converting to webm as well, and leaving a link in the comments. Which I did, but not before finding out that the much messier, lower-res gif file was about three times larger than the losslessly-encoded webm file ffmpeg spat out.

Is there any chance we can get support for webm uploads in the future? It would allow better-quality animations and reduce the amount of space each takes up.

Iirc the admins are trying to change the engine of the website, and most modern booru engines support webm so it's likely it gets added then
otherwise I'm pretty sure it's never gonna get added, even really small changes seem to be very complicated to do

Webm would basically mean going from "image gallery" site to "image and movies gallery" site, which may be the issue.
Not sure if the worst is on the technical side or the legal side, but I bet this would bring trouble.

Gifs are an ancient and inefficient format. Even if the admins restrict videos to be silent and under a certain file size, it would still be a huge upgrade. I don't see how there can be any legal trouble if videos have functional parity with gifs.

I feel bad for the mods of this site, it seems like a massive pain to try to do anything

Then make rules for the WebM and MP4's like the Rule-34 Booru.

Here is the Booru's main rules: Do not upload screamers/jump scare, or any video with incredibly loud audio. When your upload is finished, please be sure to update the tags and rating on the main listing. Please do not upload videos over 1 minute long if possible!!! . Those are fair rules. In my opinion this would be my idea of how the rules would be if a WebM or MP4 system was added: Make the limit of videos around 1-3 minutes. No full episodes of Mind Control Hentai or stuff like show's that contain it. Even full movies that contain mind control. Just the 1 - 3 minutes should be fine (4 should be if its really necessary...). And if it's fake or edited (like a real life manip/slideshow of manipped images then that shouldn't be aloud either!) Gore, Death and all the really bad stuff shouldn't be allowed either. Same goes for music and all that. That is my mind set basically.

Working on an engine that was last updated in 2013 is certainly not a great experience i guess

As long as you don't upload copyrighted content, it doesn't really change much, does it?
