If you haven't seen the news, Elon Musk bought Twitter and his (mis?)management style is...controversial to say the least.

What with all the layoffs and other surprise choices he made, I wouldn't be surprised if Twitter just suddenly shut down one day.

I figured I'd ask the community:
1) who their favorite Twitter-only artists are, so we at least have a record to try and find them later, and
2) what their thoughts are on what's going on with Twitter

While all of my favorite artists are represented here, I did notice some Twitter-only stuff from Maozi_dan, lolislove, cdlum, and mindlesswaifu slipped through the cracks.

As a twitter user/artist the thing that really sucks is the confusion. Hard to see Twitter surviving when it was losing money and is now losing more while making much less. Yet it seems to be ticking along for now. We'll see how long that lasts

But most of the confusion is about where next? I've made a mastodon and cohost account but they're both much smaller and less user-friendly sites so I don't see them having the same audience. Other people talking about Hive, Pixiv, Newgrounds etc etc

As an amateur artist, this is mildly annoying. For professionals who require as big an audience as possible, it's got to be very stressful

It's proof that isekai as a genre is fantastical wish fulfillment because if an actual otaku got reincarnated into wealth, they'd act mostly like Elon has, tripping over himself trying to impress girls who won't fuck him.

I am not one to use social media for audience gathering unless it was absolutely necessary. I also really only followed 3 artists parasocially online (having friends who are artists is different imo) and one of those pre-dated social media.

Seriously, another kid wore megatokyo shirts to marching band practice and 20 years later I still use Facebook to know when the next page is out. I'm old, Yusuke.

1) I don't think I follow any twitter only artists, but I do follow a lot of japanese loggers of mind control who keep up with new animes that have mind control scenes in them. If twitter is lost, I'll be sad to see them go, but a lot of them are also on youtube, so it won't be too bad I believe.

2) I assume my opinion differs from a lot of people here because I don't browse twitter that often and I wasn't too fond of it to begin with. I've never really liked the platform and that opinion hasn't really changed since the Musktober revolution. I guess the extra freedom is nice, but if the website crashes and burns overnight, you won't see me shedding any tears.

The future for NSFW artists depends on how Twitter Blue will work after they start fixing the problems Elon created. If it follows what was said, with the extra layer of shadowban for normal users their growth will tank hard. Even those that buy it may suffer eventually, since credit card companies love to pressure any kind of service that offers NSFW content.

Weirdly, while everyone I know seems to be having a rough time on twitter since the acquisition, I've been having a way better experience for some reason.

I used to regularly check if I was shadowbanned because it sure felt like it. I'd post some game art, and get like, two likes. Maybe I'd build up to a dozen likes on a post that's months old.

Now, I post some game art and there's immediate engagement. Not even like a swarm of bot accounts trying to make it seem like more engagement, but likes, retweets, and comments from accounts actually engaged in the hypnokink community.

Be a shame if twitter went down the toilet as soon as it seems to finally be working for me. I am so bad at learning how to properly engage with different styles of sites so if I did have to move, I'd take forever to rebuild any kind of following...

Twitter WAS losing money before. It is not likely to shutdown at all unless regulated to do so.

If you don't want to go on twitter on principle that's fine but it isn't realistic to say it is going away.

And now they're losing a lot more

Elon said the company is in danger of bankruptcy if they don't pivot to making more from subscribers and that's gone badly so far
