Disabling Anonymous Comments
I was thinking lately, maybe would be necesary to remove the "post as anonymous" feature because I see a lot of people using it for trolling, publishing controversial comments or insulting others.

Some comments even make fun of the posts work. Like the whole "Somewhat Real" tf2 post.

To be fair, people achieve the same thing with multiple accounts. But I can understand the argument

Yeah, but in order to use alt accounts at least they need to do some extra steps, create the account, etc.

The anon feature makes everything easier, so people can say whathever they want under the security of the anon post with just 2 clicks and freely flaming everyone.

No offense, but I think this is a radical solution to a problem that needs a bit more thought. If people want to troll, they'll be able to troll. Anonymous is just one way of doing it. Removing a layer of privacy for shy people that don't want to expose themselves over a few trolls using the system that can easily bypass it through burner accounts is not smart. Also this really isn't a good idea because trolls love attention. They'll see this post of you talking about removing the anon feature and if it does happen to get removed they'll take that as a challenge. You'll just be kicking the hornet's nest and probably make the situation worse.

Better than doing nothing, look at Rule34, they got rid of "post as anonymous" and I haven't seen as many people respond as before other than the roleplayers and bots.

Rule 34's a bigger website with a bigger moderation team. They can handle trolls better so there aren't as many that like to go there. Not dumping on this website I love it, but it's small and niche, and it has been doxxed easily many times. I've witnessed some of them lol

Funnily I received some anon insults on rule34 that stopped me to publish there again, and even if I report it that can take weeks in that comment being removed (if that's even removed). Bigger site doesn't mean better moderation team.

At least on hypnohub, reported comments and problematic discussions are being reviewed quite fast since the web isn't that big. However, that could become a problem in the future.

Altought I get your point, that could be a pain for people are so shy or scared and don't want to make an alt account and still need some debate.

Im in full support removing Anon posting as I feel all it does is hurt the sense of community on the hub.

I've checked in with Slayerduck and it is something we can toggle.

Right now we're leaning towards disabling it but will probably give it a few days to give everyone a chance to voice their concerns.

Since this could be a big change I recommend a kind of "news" post on the galleries talking about this thread, so people that just check the galleries have a chance to give their opinions here.

Made a news post and stickied the thread for now.

I may be more or less alone here, but I like the anon feature because the lower barrier of entry for commenting means more positive comments as well.

The question as I see it is basically whether its worth putting up with more spam and rude comments in exchange for more general engagement and positive feedback. To me personally, the increased engagement is totally worth it.

I'm definitely biased here, I like reading comments and ive seen more on my work and works that I enjoy since the feature was added. Plus, I dont really care if people are spamming or being nasty, and I can see why other people would find that bothersome. But ultimately forcing account registration clearly weeds out a lot of people from engaging, and Id prefer this already niche site get more discussion than less.

I think both options are completely valid, to be clear, and I hope I've made my points as respectfully as possible! I just have a personal preference and wanted to make an argument in favor of keeping the feature.

I don't care either way, but could we consider disabling that annoying minimum length for comments while we're at it?
