scenes or episodes involving brainwashing cults?
Hello everyone! I wondered if some of you fiction works where one or more cults are involved. But not your "normal" cult that just rings at the door and they give you a pamphlet. More like the kind of cult that uses brainwashing, hypno of all kind or mind alteration in order to make characters go from "you're full of shit! Get out!" to "you're wonderful, thanks to you I know the truth!" very quickly and at an alarming rate.

The kind of cults some characters might be sent to investigate only for them to fall for the brainwashing thing they use to convert people. The kind of cults where more and more persons act or dress strangely due to the brainwashing process they use and that give the non converted persons the feeling some sort of weird trend might be involved. The kind of cult that makes converted persons' mind altered to believe the darkest or weirdest activities related to the organization are not only perfectly normal but should be encouraged and that the cult leader is always right.

Bonus if one or several of the main characters end up being converted to it ^^

A few examples I know:

In the japanese anime "mob psycho 100" (episode 3) the character is approached by a member of a strange cult that gets more and more popularity and gained thousands of adepts in less than one month of existence. It turns out the cult leader is an esper who uses his power to force it's members to feel happy to be there and reunite in the cult's building.

Later in season 3 of the same anime, a cult that worships a giant broccoli is born and it quickly converts more members by using fragments of their "divine tree" to prepare food and drinks. People who eat and drink that instantly change their mind about the giant broccoli and worship it too!

I have been told the manga "20th century boys" as well as 16th volume of the "re zero" light novel contained stuff like that.

From the few things I know about these cases, in 20th century boys, someone reveals the activities of the group to a half brainwashed crowd, he reveals they're a bunch of criminals and murderers and it either makes the crowd laugh or they think there's nothing weird at all about doing that.

In the 16th volume of the "re zero" light novel a person had the power to make her thoughts contagious or something like that (from what I have been told) and made some sort of cult and people started to think it was perfectly normal to sacrifice even an innocent kid. The main character apparently is affected at one point from what I heard.

I hope I helped a few persons with the examples I gave and I really wonder what you discovered yourself ^^

In the web novel of tsuki ga michibiku a person has the power of charm and everyone that looks at his eye starts to worship that guy like a cult.

In black clover chapter 334 the villain has the magic of soul, he can manipulates the soul of the people to believe he is right and he's gonna be the savior of the world, and makes the people try to kill the mc cause he is all the bad in the world

In the 90's Spider-Man cartoon (Season 3, Episode 1), Mary Jane gets recruited into a cult run by Baron Mordo. Mordo put his followers into a trance state where they believed they were reunited with lost loved ones, when in reality they were put to work as mindless soldiers and sent out to fight Spider-Man and Dr. Strange. Spider-Man also briefly falls under Mordo's control after infiltrating the compound as Peter Parker.

Thanks a lot for these examples! You def know where to find some nice stuff! Is the cult leader from Tsuki ga Michibiku a central theme or something that was used for a limited period of time? Regardless, it still sounds really promising

Damn that black clover chap also looks really promising! Was it adapted in the anime?

The character is not a cult leader, he is called tomoki, he appears in the manga, as i said he had the power to charm everyone that look at his eye, he is manipulated by a princess that makes him arrogant and takes advantage of his power making he charm powerful and influential woman (his power also works on men) at a point of the story he has charmed an entire Town that as i said worship him, Even the Queen of that Town that is said to be a loving mother and wife tries to kill her own daughter so she can give the Town to the person she loves, that now she believes is tomoki, also tomoki has fought with the mc, the mc humillated him, he hates the mc for that, because of the power of tomoki the people he hates makes the people that are charmed by him gone berserk when they see or hear them. He is still alive the mc doesnt care about him that much and still has his power.

That chapter of black clover isnt adapted in the anime, but at least the arc is still ongoing, of the 4 characters that has been brainwashed 2 of them doesnt matter cause they were villains, the other is one influential person in the kingdom where mc lives (until now he just appeared in one panel of this arc), the 4 person is the girl that took care of the mc when he was a child also is the girl that the mc loves, they Are still being the "same" but thinks that what they are doing is for the sake of a world where everyone is happy. Also the girl mc likes reject the love declaration of the mc, after that the villain "brainwashes" her in front of the mc and makes her "kill" the mc.

Thank you again for all these details.

I love how crazy they go for that man! It's dark but it's also hot imo ^^

Oh damn I wonder what else might happen if that arc isn't even over! I wonder if he's gonna try to make his "adepts" do some weird shit!
