In Japanese, transgender is トランスジェンダー which is often shortened to just トランス (trans). The word for trance is トランス and because of the way Japanese phonetics work, it’s actually the exact same word. Trans and trance… maybe they’re closer together than we think. Have a happy pride month everyone.

I've been on the Hypno Hookups server and let me tell you, there's PLENTY of Trans folk on there. I also remember reading a piece about why Dronification is popular with the Trans community but I can't seem to find it anywhere.

To get around that, one could borrow the french pronunciation for "transe" (the hypno one) thus ending the word by ず or ズ (zu).
"Trans" like in "transformation" or "transgenre" would be the usual す (su).

But both words have the same pronunciation in French...

It's perfectly possible to use a "zu" sound instead of a "su" sound, but Japanese has decided that using the "su" sound is more natural even if it does create a homophone. Language is really interesting like that.
