There have been a few things in this fetish that have made people here either love out loud or loathe in silence. I wonder if it's more a subjective matter than it seems. So I'd like to ask members to participate in a sort of game.

Basically you or someone else posts something about this niche that you find to be cliche or a classic and tell us why you think so. Then another person will either comment on yours or do the same.

The objective of this is to collect a list filled with varying opinions and perspectives. I plan to do my part in this as well... eventually.

The "You are sleepy and must obey me" sentence. Both of a Cliche and of a Classic I would say. Classic because, indeed, there is nothing quite like seeing a subject completely giving up to someone. Cliche because many people outside hypnosis thinks it's just a way to force someone to obey your orders, when there can be sooo much more :)

Cliche:
Those goddamn smartphones.

I would say the classic zombie/sleep walk hypno pose with there arms infront of them as they march forward hypnotized.

I find that cliche, personally. It was the first thing I thought of upon reading the OP.

Pocket watch pendulums are, of course, a classic.

Tattoos/sigils applied to a person that put them under permanent control, or that allow a dark deity or demon to possess the (un)fortunate victim.

This is kind of a staple in a number of fantasy settings, and I think was shown in Conan the Barbarian (the comics based off the original short stories, as well as the pulp comics). This is usually done to princesses, priestesses, or maidens, and I consider it a classic. It can be either cliche or classic when it is a theme in a number of Dungeons and Dragons campaigns.

If we're talking about tropes in general, hypnosis as a plot device in film and television is a cliche. A very sexy cliche @_@

Maybe the greatest cliche is the concept of the hypnotist in general. In every story we see mostly the sub POV, the one being hypnotized is not always the same type of person. Every kind of character, no matter what kind of personality they have, can and will get hypnotized in a wide variety of ways. And even the way they act while under someone else's control varies, they can look happy, sleepy, emotionless or just plain silly.

But the hypnotist rarely changes. They're always the dominant perverts, often hidden from the viewer, holding their devices, giving that nasty look and smiling with pleasure as they put their helpless victims into trance and make them follow the same kind of commands (Strip Naked! Bend Over! Suck it! Lick it! Kiss me! Love me! Put on a diaper and a nurse outfit, shit yourself and go haigure all over the town!).

I think the hypnotists are the greatest cliche and most classical character in hypno fetish. At one point we all picture them in the same way: that shady guy in a raincoat and top hat calling you from the back alley, holding a tiny shiny thing on his hand, grinning as you fix your gaze and slowly walk towards him, ready to serve his every wish with a smile on your face. And everyone here knows what he is wishing for.

But yeah, I see your point and I agree with it.

I think this kind of goes along with this, but when the sub replies, "Yes master, I will obey," or whatever. I love the concept of mindless mantras, but when it all comes down to what is essentially a stock line that everyone uses, it feels more cliche than classic. Similarly, when a newly converted slave refers to their controller as "master" or "mistress" without being given those words to refer to them as, it just grates on me.

The problem when I face this situation is that I'm rarely sure if the subject becomes completely submissive because of a well done trance, or if he/she is just playing along and is in fact barely hypnotized at all :/
