How to make a text manip?
Hello, I was just wondering how I should go about making a text manip. The only real problem I see myself having is not having any money to spend on a program. Any tips on what to use, then, and how to use it?

The first step is to open your mind to Hypno-Tan who will enter and subsume your will. At this point, she will use her own talents to pilot your body through the process of making hypno manips for the glory of mind control.

Or if you are a wuss, and don't want to become a memetic servant of Hypno-Tan; you can always just grab paint.net or gimp and practice making edits and different eye effects. I believe both of those tools also have text tools you can use to add text to manips once you have the eye effects down.

Question #2- how the hell do I use paint.net?

youtube and google have all the answers you seek. as it was fortold in the scrolls many a manipers would seek out google and youtube for their vast ancient knoledge to aquire power.

My only (not-so-good) expertise is in photoshop, so I can't help you much there.

For text manips in general though, be sure to take into account the font that you use (probably not comic-sans), whether or not the font color clashes with the background color, and using some way to differentiate between who is saying what (can be different colors, different fonts, etc).

Ok, now I'm fooling around in paint.net and have another problem.

I'm trying to make an eye gleam for a manip, but I can't figure out how to make the part I want transparent and see-though, and the part I don't want not there. imgur.com/EAL5WSu This is what I have so far. Anyone have any tips? And don't say to use google! That doesn't help!

In GIMP you can use layer masks to do this. No idea about Paint.net I'm afraid but I imagine it'll have a similar option

If you double click on the layer, you can select blend modes and opacity. I'm not sure if that effect will work though, as it looks like the yellow fades to the literal color white. The white will discolor the layer under it just like the yellow will. To ensure only the yellow discolors the layer below it, you'd want the yellow to fade to transparent.

How do I make it fade to transparent?

To make a blur that fades to transparent, make a new layer, which is transparent by default, color a bit of the color you are going to use then use the Gaussian Blur under effects, then blurs. There isn't really any way that I know of though to take an existing blur that is against a solid color and replace the solid color with transparency.

You could try using the magic wand to select the solid color and delete it/move it to a new layer

Question ???: How do I take the clearly superior option?

Ok, so after a little fooling around, I've made this imgur.com/fpVUdRF

My final (hopefully) question is, how do I add space for the text? I want it in it's own box on the side, like this hypnohub.net/post/show/61...cow_girl-cowbell-dialogue

I mostly want to keep the whole image intact, not blocking any of it. Do I just make the image, bigger, or do i have to do something else?

Also, the eye effect doesn't look that good up close. Any help with that? Looks fine from a distance, kinda fake up close? I'll take a look at it.
