Lighter theme?
Is there a way to make the site's colors brighter? I think the current one is really too dark for me. Thanks.

I'm inclined to agree with this idea about a lighter theme, what with all of the arguments setting off around here.

What, that wasn't what you meant?

Good timing.

But on topic I love the color scheme I'm pretty sensitive to bright lights and colors so this is easy on my eyes.

But some way to toggle the color would be good for other people.

I think the Booru engine is defaulted to this dark theme, for a few reasons.

1) Darker themes are more energy-efficient for the viewer. No, seriously. A light desktop takes a fair bit more electricity to display than a dark one on anything that's not an e-Ink tablet (hint: you're not viewing this site on one of those.)
2) They're also considered better on the eyes - also verified by research.
3) It naturally draws the eye to the brightest point of the page - usually, that's the images.

That said, if we can't do it ourself or find a mod to the Booru engine to make it work, a Greasemonkey script should allow you to manipulate the CSS to switch the theme. It's a fun and relatively easy coding exercise. I know at least some versions of Firefox support overruling the theme, as well. Dunno how that works, though; I main Chrome.

I think the dark theme is better because it's easier on the eyes when I'm browsing at night and all the lights are off.

If I knew how to and could add themes to the site, I could gladly do so. Alas, that is currently not a possibility.

But...

This sounds interesting. If nothing else, I could consider looking into doing something with that should I find the time.

The color scheme was indeed designed with late-browsing and eye strain in mind. And also energy efficiency, as Nightington pointed out. I'm glad it's working as intended.

While our color scheme is heavily based on the default theme of the software, it's slightly edited: the background is slightly brighter as opposed to black and the text is an off-white rather than a white, reducing the contrast between the colors' brightness and thus making it less stressful on the eyes. There's a few other differences, too, but those are the main two.

I personally love this color and wish more sites used one like it. This is one of the few sites I go to regularly that doesn't hurt my eyes.

I actually wear sunglasses most of the time when I leave my house to mitigate the amount of light.

I love the scheme as is, like Imasuky said I wish more sites used it. (Especially Wikipedia, god damn it's like it's trying to etch information directly onto my retinas after a while.) That said, a choice is always nice.

I 'd still like an option, if possible, or would prefer a light theme if not. This strains my eyes during daylight. I don't think dark themes are pleasant to look at. There's a reason while paper is white and text is black usually. I browse at night with ambient lights because I don't like glowing screens in the dark to begin with. My eyes are pretty sensitive.
Which brings me to mentioning night time screen dimmers like

¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I tried to log in again, and it was accepted. I didn't remember if I used an underscore or not. I didn't register again. I'm the same guy as OP.
