So, I finally got around to replaying Sonic Unleashed...
It's one of the only Sonic games I've yet to beat, due to not touching it after getting stuck when it came out. (Fucking medals.) I booted it up, first stage, and...

HOLY FUCK WHY THE FUCK IS HOMING ATTACK MAPPED TO BOOST?!? I KNOW THE AIR BOOST IS ALSO AN UPGRADE SO THAT'S EVEN STUPIDER!!! WELL FUCK ME!

Fuck me this is painful. Why does Sonic control like ass at a standstill? The Werehog is waaaaaaaaay clunkier than I remember. Why are the Werehog stages so long? WHO THE FUCK IS AT THE DOOR?!

Man, Not Sky Chase has a really unappreciated theme.

So imma sound insane, but I'm actively enjoying the Werehog more.

WAITHEARMEOUT

The day stages ARE great, but they frustrate me because I'm so familiar with Generations, so when Sonic refuses to turn around, or just hops in the air, not homing attacking, it's taking me out. Also, HOLY SHIT! That air dash is fucking insane!! It's launching me so fucking far! It's locking on to targets 5 miles away, and getting me killed!

I don't actively play hack-and-slash, so, I don't know what's "good", but I'm adoring just massacring hordes of enemies, while constantly getting new, flashy combos. The slower platforming is also a nice change of pace. The stages ARE too long however.

It's so weird hearing this Tails voice coming out of this model. Sonic's okay because Jason is such a great Sonic. Amy didn't change much. (tbh only new cast improvement, 'sides Tails is Silver, but that's Quinton Flynn)

I adore the whole "World Adventure" though. Travelling the world, meeting the colourful people, getting souvenirs, and a buddy who gives a food critique.

Werehog is too slow as a hack-n-slash. Try Ninja Gaiden, Bayonetta, or even No More Heroes.

You uh, DON'T want to strangle every character in that game?

Or every 3D Sonic game for that matter?

I actually really like these side quests.

Making a birthday special, making a girl less shy, helping a man succumb to Stockholm Syndrome...

I enjoyed the Werehog more myself. I'm used to the older Sonic games, like SA2B, where speed was still bearable and enjoyable. For me, playing the day stages in Unleashed makes me feel like the speed is making my face peel off. It's just TOO DAMN FAST. And I don't even care that Sonic games are about speed, this game just has way too much of it. The Werehog stages remind me more of SA2's right balance of speed and combat, and do each of them fairly well -- I still feel like I'm moving fast, and get the bonus of beating the shit out of any enemies in my path, but I'm not getting motion sickness from a videogame.
