They brought it back for that (terrible) new Ghostbusters movie. I'm gonna stock up before they shelve it for another 15 years....

Ah man, was it terrible? I've been debating on whether or not to see it. The trailers I saw made it look pretty bad, I didn't even crack a smile, but being a huge fan of all things Ghostbusters (I even love the second movie although it's a hot mess haha) I was going to give it a chance.

I dunno why everyone hates Ghostbusters 2. I thoroughly enjoyed it. But yeah, the new one is a mess. Dan Akroyd and Ivan Reitman have nothing to do with it and it shows. Paul Feig's man-hating shows its ugly head in the movie, where every male is dumb, an a-hole, or the villian. The plot is mostly a rip-off of the original without any of the heart or respect, and the main characters don't stand out at all.

I've heard three different reviews over and over again. I can summarize them as:

1: ITS THE WORST THING THAT'S HAPPENED TO ME SINCE SEPHEROTH BURNED DOWN MY HOME!! MY CHILDHOOD IS RUINED!!

2: It's pretty average. Couple good jokes, some bad jokes, not really too good or bad.

3: I'M NOT ONE OF THOSE SEXISTS! THIS IS DEFINITELY THE BEST MOVIE THAT HAS EVER BEEN MADE EVER OF ALL TIME AND HAS NO FLAWS!!


I haven't seen it for myself, but I'm feeling like it's *probably* number 2 that is the most accurate.

It's forgettable comedy that isn't anything too heinous/horrendous, but created such a horrible controversy based off the actions taken by SONY and the really despicable articles written by these tabloid journalists, especially going so far as to attack a guy that was incredibly reasonable in his simple refusal to see + review the film before was released...

I won't exactly discourage ya from seeing it in theaters, especially as I hadn't seen it myself; simply haven't heard anything glowing about it as a comedy film. Ik some friends that said they liked it tho and laughed, so I'm sure you won't be miserable. Personally I just prefer to not see in theaters these soulless reboots/retellings/rewhatevers where the studios want to simply take in the Summer blockbuster money for... •_____•

Oh boy rant mode engaging... The new Ghostbusters was a good movie. I liked a lot of the jokes, and all this "OMG ALL THE MALES R STUPID" thing is complete insanity. Kevin's the only really stupid character, and that's literally the point. Besides, he's an endearing character, and I like the jokes they came up with for him. As for FireMario's points, dude, what? For one thing, I love the characters. They've all got separate personalities, and not one time are they sexualized movie females, which is good. And again, the "man-hating" doesn't shine through at all, and I've seen plenty of people agreeing with me on that. While Paul himself is a disgusting scumbag, the actual movie didn't show much of his feminist bullshit, and believe me I was looking. There are very few male characters with screen time in general, and from what I've seen, most of them weren't stupid, assholes, or the main villain. We saw two guys at the beginning of the movie when the Ghostbusters were checking out the manor. We saw the mayor, who, while an ass, was also a stereotype used all the time. The mayor who's trying to shut down the good guys as a secondary antagonist. That isn't Paul's "man-hating" shining through. The plot isn't a rip off. It's an homage if anything. Sure, there's a large monster, and a similar cataclysmic event, but it's under a completely different premise.

Tl;dr, the movie wasn't nearly as flawed as everyone expected it to be, and I, an anti-feminist cis white male who despises the director, enjoyed it, and got my money's worth.

I love how I brought up a fruit juice that's been gone for 15 years, and of course the topic turns to that god awful movie.

What? New movie was fine. Not as iconic as the first but competently put together and honestly had stronger themes. Kate McKinnon rules the world and Leslie Jones was far more hit than miss (they harped on her most obnoxious jokes in the trailers when she was actually an awesome character). It was weird seeing McCarthy play a straight (wo)man for the most part, she's usually the crazy one in a given comedy ensemble.

honestly i just wish people would stop whining about the new movie and remember that while harold ramis has tragically passed away, the original ghostbusters series is very much alive in the form of the 2009 videogame and the idw comic series which is still going on today. and they actually managed to pull off the female ghostbusters team first and arguably better.
