Saimin Yuugi Failed Fan Translation...
So as you all know there is a visual novel out there centered around hypnosis called Saimin Yuugi which is a gem for all of us since we all it will probably never be translated into english. So today i decided to open the game which i bought awhile back even though i don't understand japanese ( The reason is because i thought i had located a program that would be able to translate it but it didn't work) once it was open i grabbed my japanese textbook off my desk and turned to the hiragana chart page and then i attempted to try to see how far i can translate it using just the hiragana chart and surprising i was able translate into english A WHOOPING ONE WORD *GASP* the very first word of the game which translated into the romaji word pakapaka which means clip-clop, or clippity-clop apparantly lol. I thought this was hilarious so i thought i'd share it with you guys lol.

I've had some weird experience with online translators. Aside from numerous instances where only the first word in a sentence is translated, I've had some really bizarre cases where a word is randomly translated into some completely unrelated copyright.
For example, one time I tried to translated a block of text, a single word (don't remember what it was) got translated as "Record of Lodoss War".
I remember someone once showed me an image of him trying to transate a visual novel, for some reason it translated a girl's moaning as "Nintendo 64". So as the sex scene is going on and she's repeadetly moaning, the text is repeating Nintendo 64 over and over again. That was hilarious.

Automatic translators do that because they try to find the closest thing they're aware of to the text and they generally don't have moans in there so you just need to know that's one of the places they'll totally shit themselves.

Also, that's not what that says. It says Pokapoka. The first line talks about the weather.

Saimin Yuugi isn't a TOTAL writeoff for someone picking up, though. There's a non-zero chance Mangagamer picks it up. It's won an award for best budget title the year it came out and the art has a good pedigree. Well, it'd be more non-zero if the company wasn't bust (at least as far as I can tell). It's probably too "out there" for Sekai Project/Denpasoft unfortunately which hurts it cuz the artist is the Nekopara artist so there's obviously good marketing opportunities there.

I translated a tiny bit years ago before I got a full-time job, from another thread that attempted to get a group to translate it. It's unlikely I'll get the time to continue (and it matches the thread title so well =P), I might as well post it here.

This is from the 'route' of the teacher. How accurate is this translation? Why wasn't it proofread? Why are there so many brackets? Bite me.

I feel that the only way this game will ever get translated is if we all decided to basically fill out Mangagamer's Licensing survey saying we want this game translated, but I'd doubt that we have enough people to make a splash.

Edit: Speaking of this game, has anyone bought it off of the jpn dlsite? I've been thinking of just maybe just buying it and seeing how well I can try it, either by using an "auto-translator" (i hate the idea of using a machine translation, but if it helps I might try it as a supplement to actually trying to read it in japanese).

To be fair, I have the proofread and localized version on my laptop somewhere.

I buy from dlsite's Japanese site on a regular basis. The way it handles credit card is a bit annoying, and you most likely will be fraud checked by your company, but otherwise it's not too bad (assuming you know some Japanese)
