Why I don't like Kaa.
While I certainly don't hate Kaa, that hypnosis-gifted talking snake from the Jungle Book, as much as I used to, I still don't like him.

One, because he's always hungry, for HUMANS nonetheless.

Two, because his voice legitimately sounds like a pedophile in the disney classic movie.

Three, because, well, he's a loser. Now normally I don't mind losers if they learn to grow stronger and get better.

But even still, he easily gets killed or thrown into rocks or gorges multiple times, and never learns to grow into a better "hunter" .

Although as much as I liked Scarlet Johansson's edition of Kaa in the 2016 movie of The Jungle Book, since her voice for Kaa was actually soothing rather than pedophiliac, I was a little bit disappointed when she still managed to get killed.

She could've even turned into a hero. But no. She only served as a mirror into the past. I was anticipating Kaa to be something of a good guy in the 2016 adaptation of The Jungle Book, maybe get some classic Jungle Book novel characteristics in it, but no. She's never seen again after her encounter with Mowgli.

Personally, I would've wanted Kaa to be some sort of heroic sacrifice to keep Mowgli safe in the jungle book 2016 movie. And to die happy by Shere Kahn protecting Mowgli if Baloo or Baghera couldn't any longer, rather than die miserable and hungry, finally getting that sweet taste of happiness and heroism.

That would've been nice.

UPDATE: Oh, and I forgot to mention, he looked ALOT better than his 1967 canon art style in the 2016 movie.

Can't wait to see what Mindwipe has to say about all this.

Why? Is he a big fan of the snake?

I love how this thread went from "I don't like Kaa" to "I think Kaa should've undergone an entire character change just because I don't like a trope."

What trope is that you're referring to?

That's what I was thinking. It's less about Kaa being a shitty overused and unattractive thing and more about what one person thinks is wrong with the core plot.

The core plot being what now?

Kaa's a cowardly snake whose purpose in the story was to teach Mowgli a lesson about being careful because he's an overconfident child. He's not gonna suddenly COMPLETELY change his character to be some kinda hero character dude. That'd be terrible writing.

I also forgot to comment on this, yeah. What you suggested, Wave, would completely rewrite the ending parts of the story, probably change the moral, and make it into a completely different thing entirely. Like listen, I'm all for characters who do a 180 in personality through character development, (see Vegeta from Dragon Ball Z, for example) but Kaa changing that drastically by the end of the movie with no prompt for it would be ridiculous.

So his whole purpose is to teach mowgli to be careful?

They could've done that then made Kaa develop in character into a straight-up badass, hero, villain or friend after Mowgli learned his lesson. That would be much better than being a loser til the end who gives up. And I'm talking about the 1967 version.

The 2016 version was pretty good. Only flaw with her was that she was seen once. And was pretty much almost useless aside from being a mirror into the past.

Well we can't rewrite whats already been made,
that's how the writers made it so so unless you have a time machine and connections to disney at that time when the movie was being made nothing can be done.

...Yes but. That's... That isn't Kaa's character. No way is he changing that much in one movie. Kaa was ready to kill Mowgli. Let's again use Vegeta as an example. Do you know how long it took for Vegeta to stop being a villain? Like months. Years to complete the process. Kaa ain't gonna become some super badass hero character. And Kaa's a coward, which arguably makes it HARDER to become a badass. We get it, you don't like "loser" characters for... Whatever reason, I dunno it's probably some psychological thing, preferences and all that. Still, you can't exactly change anything by wanting to poorly rewrite a character to suit your preferences.

As good as your logic is I get the feeling this is one of those times when it'd be best to walk away.

See... You're right? But also I'm kinda enjoying this for whatever reason.
