Why did it drop back down below 40k?

We broke that number two weeks ago and now it's down to 39993.

maybe a bunch of posts got removed for some reason or another?

Chaoscroc and Redflare both blacklisted themselves from the site.
Chaoscroc I at least know had over 600 posts, so we took a bit of a big hit with all those posts removed. Otherwise, we'll get back up there soon enough, dontcha worry.
