Movies with god-tier soundtracks
Thread title says it all! Can be an original soundtrack, or just very good usage of existing music.

The Big Lebowski as far as existing soundtracks go. Great use of Credence Clearwater Revival along with some other more obscure stuff (like the Spanish-language version of Hotel California).

When you want to convey stark terror, mixed with melancholy, mixed with cruel absurdity, this man is your go-to guy:

Ya'll want a superhero soundtrack that'll bring you to tears? Listen to the one from Unbreakable. Perhaps James Newton Howard's finest work as a composer EVER.

If I had to name one guy and say "This guy is why I like the music I like." It'd have to be John Carpenter. I know logically he couldn't have been the only one using music in the way he was, but in films like <<www.youtube.com/watch?v=LS7k3G_6IjE|"Assault on Precinct 13">>, <<www.youtube.com/watch?v=meU2gAU7Xss|"The Thing">>, <<www.youtube.com/watch?v=VLFx30Ijiq0|"Halloween">> and <<www.youtube.com/watch?v=f1JYDmo19to|"Escape from New York">> I've heard things that I just haven't heard done.

"The Thing" also bears mentioning because it's one of those rare horror films where the characters are not retarded in the face of danger. I always found that refreshing about it.

Another director whose infamous for his good use of music is also Quentin Tarantino. Probably the first time I heard surf music was 1) one of the best examples of the genre - Misirlou by Dick Dale and 2) as the main theme of <<www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y4cLmXml8O0|"Pulp Fiction">>.

Also, <<www.youtube.com/watch?v=D...5KsPC2dEXYRlb8DqSsIKXKsyp|"Children of Men">> had a really solid soundtrack over all. I wish there were less dead links on the internet for it.

I'd be remiss if I didn't mention <<www.youtube.com/watch?v=6LHOawUrmJE|Drive>>. I don't think we'd be listening to the same kind of electric music if Nicolas Winding Refn didn't get that movie made.

Mortal Kombat Annihilation.

Quite possibly the worst movie i've seen with the best soundtrrack and music.

For such a hilariously, laughably bad trainwreck and piece of complete crap that it is, the best thing about this movie by far is it's soundtrack album and all the songs used in it.

Juno Reactor, Scooter, The Future Sound Of London, Rammstien, KMFDM, Megadeth, and Pitchshifter all in one soundtrack? Absolutely yes. The score itself was done by the master of funk himself George S Clinton (even though only snippets are on the album), and of course, a remix of that epic Mortal Kombat theme that everyone loves to this day.

The soundtrack is about a 100 times better than the movie, and gives me at least one reason to thank it for it's existence.

(Although I actually kind of like the movie itself in an ironic way, since it's so hilariously awful, it's like an Ed Wood film if he was still alive and making licensed films. It's kind of hilarious if you watch it just to laugh at the bad writing, worse costumes, even worse effects, even worse acting from Sindel and Shao Khan especially, and all of the blatantly obvious technical filmmaking and editing mistakes the movie is filled with.

It's so funny to watch. I watch it at least once a year just to laugh at it and have a good time riffing how stupid it is.... while rocking out to the amazing soundtrack of course. It's a terrible film as far as a terrible film goes, but it's unintentional comedy gold if you watch in in the context of a hilarious trainwreck of absurdly terrible fun.)

Never seen it, but sounds accurate to what I've heard.

Everytime I watch it, I ask myself each and every time, "what were they thinking?" with many of these "creative" decisions. Everytime I watch it, the mystery grows.

But yes, the soundtrack? It's actually one of my favorites.

I actually recommend it. It's not the unwatchable kind of bad, in my opinion, it's more of the "hahaha oh my god I cannot believe they did this, this is so unbelievably stupid it's fantastic! Were they all high while filming and editing this??" kind of FUN bad. :P
