I'll be up front with you - I started the same way, and I paid out of my own pocket to get it done until I had enough of a following (and decided to make it a real job) that I could succeed on Patreon.

I've known artists to sometimes do a pic or two for free to friends and such, but if you're making a game that's a ton of work and you'll end up having to pay them. If you don't have much money, well, neither did I. There were times I only had $70 in my bank and spent it on pics. It worked out for me but not for everyone. I'm also friends with a lot of artists, many of whom such as Sleepymaid or Mindwipe or Zyii did nice stuff for free or at reduced cost on occasion. But you cannot expect or really ask for that. They have to eat, too.

VN's particularly are very art heavy.

People like myself and Changer prove this isn't insurmountable but keep your expectations and plans realistic. Prepare to make a very simple, short game over a long period of time so you can afford it.

Don't do what skullman said.

Talking about art is sort of putting the cart before the horse. I'd research VN engines. Pick one. And get started with some text and placeholder art. It'll be easier to get people interested with helping if you show you've got something started

I started by doing that with a game that has now disappeared from the internet called Hypno Master, I also worked on Hentai Highschool stuff before that. I can't say it's completely wrong without being a hypocrite.

However, never EVER try to make money from it. Also this is a different era than that one, when literally nothing else existed. You'll be competing with people with original assets if you do.

My advice is just to do it to learn if you go that route.

Since i'm not an artist when i'm working on RPG maker i do that because I don't need to show a picture every 2 minutes and they aren't ambitious projects, but a Visual Novel is art heavy so...I'm not sure is that works...

BUT:

This pretty much.

You need to think of a goal.
>Is that project a serious thing?
>Do you want to compete with others?
>Do you do it just for yourself?

If it's a modest project, I don't see a problem, but for a big project eventually you'll need original art.

If I were you, I would start a Patreon to hire artists.

Everyone else has been all good-spirited about this, so let me be the one to say it: Before you make a VN, please get more practice on spelling, grammar, punctuation, capitalization, and sentence structure. I know it's not easy, especially if English is not your first language, but if you want people to enjoy your creation, those really are things that you need to get to at least a reasonably decent level.

1 English is the only language I know.
2 I was in a hurry when I pose this and I didn´t have time to check my gammer.
3 I have a partner who spell check for me. I make little mistakes all the time.

You really need something to show before you can start asking for money

You can talk about Patreons and getting artists till the cows come home. In my experience (and I have released a fair few games) The best thing to do is start. Like right now. People will be more likely to join and you'll have a better idea of what you need

Honestly I said that very tired, yeah good idea first, but I'm also tired right now...so...I think its best if no one listens to me at 3 AM.

I played a game called "Seduce Me" with hints of mind control in the story though that wasn't the main idea of the story. There's a sequel to the game nowadays too! Anyway.

It was built on "Ren'Py" and it was very nice and easy to use. No idea about programming it yourself but yeah. I think that's a good program to use.

Ren'py is a good option, especially if you are familiar with python.
I havn't made a visual novel before, but I would highly recommend doing planning before trying to create the visual novel itself,
because things like branching stories and sequence of events is easy to figure out on paper/word processor, but not so much when it is in game form.
For an example of a Ren'py game I'd look at CypressZeta's SnowDaze. It's available for free on zeta's Patreon
Anyways, good luck.
