M.C. Saimin Kenkyuu - New game by Staffing teased in new website!
Staffing (the circle behind the games Saimin Yuugi and Saimin Enbu) have created a teaser website for their upcoming game:

crossover-game.jp/staffing/mc_saiminkenkyu/index.html

According to a Japanese blog, it appears to be a remake of the M.C. game franchise developed by the circle #define. The silhouettes of the characters do resemble the protagonists of each of the games (protagonists from the third, first and second game if viewed from left to right), so it adds to the credibility of the statement. These games, though old, were of very high quality for their time and had a very strong emphasis on the hypnosis elements of the story, which I think is a quality that fits Staffing to a T. I particularly liked the second and third games.

The only question is: will Sayori be returning to provide the art for the game? Frankly, I doubt it as she appears to be quite busy with her mainstream franchise Nekopara, and she has no reason to return to work in obscure hypnosis games, aside from personal interest. But even if she doesn't return, I'm sure the circle will find a good artist for this project. It would sure be nice if I was wrong, though.

Anyways, I just discovered this, got hyped, and wanted to share the news with you guys. What do you think?

Hype!!

Not having ever played the original M.C. games I was pretty excited to hear about this. In fact I think the only #define game I've gone through was Saimin Jikken which felt like it was essentially the first entry to Staffing's two games. Either way always happy to see more content from Staffing.

The problem is, the other games under their separate brand "include" were pretty lackluster. Lots of reused assets, both backgrounds and BGM. Scenarios weren't that great either.

Yes, Saimin Yuughi was great. Saimin Enbu was decent as well, but it's been a while since then and in a worst case scenario we will see another saimin game without an intro movie (like saimin enbu) and the above issues recurring, At this point I am actually more excited about the MC games from other companies then staffing to be honest ...

Looking at the image it looks like they are returning to character concept from the first game.

Left: Teacher (does not seem to be Rui) - you can clearly make out that character is wearing a bussiness suit,
Middle: Looks like that is either a kohai or a loli looking girl. The silhouette makes her look like she is in some kind of sports club, because her skirt is shorter. Could be anything, but Tennis seems likely because Track and field, swimming and things like soccer or basketball would mean she wouldn't wear a skirt, but shorts/bloomer.
Right: Seems to be the honor Student (Pigtails, Glasses). They chose a pretty obvious stance, making it clear she is wearing glasses and probably touching them in that stance, so she'll probably have a personality that is very close to maiya's.

Though this is pretty much all guesswork, pictures like this give quite a decent amount of possible insight.

I've been wanting to play games like these. Like I don't mind buying them, but I'm not sure how to download english versions or what not, the closest I get is downloading sets off hentai sites. Snowdaze is great, but I would love to figure out how and where to download these types of games lol

There is no englisch translation of 99% of the games. You can be happy if you find one translated by Mangagamers or maybe a Fan Translation, but most of the games will remain Japanese.

There are guides and instructions on how you hook programms into the exe files to get the Japanese textstring, which then is translated into english using either ATLAS or Google Translate (Chiitrans Lite is the most commonly used one I guess) - with mixing results. I've been mostly satisfied with these translations and in case of more exciting text passages, I normally try translating them with better tools (book, better internet ressources) then the ones that hook into the games.

Oh thank you that makes sense on why I had trouble, all this information is totally new to me. Thanks for letting me know, so I won't spend another night trying to figure out how to get one of those games to work for me.

I'd really love a way to save the script, because sometimes is annoying to wait for the translation program to end with the paragraph, Also, that makes you internet dependent.

I had the whole Saimin Enbu script once when I tried to reverse-engineer Saimin-Enbu/Yuugi to get it into a state where people could translate part of it and I could release translation patches.

Or rather, someone did this for me and then vanished from the community and never replied again shortly before we could make it ... otherwise we would already have a fan translation of the first game. :(

It's all a question of encryption and how to decrypt and re-encrypt stuff. The script has a weird kind of formatting, but it is basically in txt files which you can change if you know how.

Have you tried Mob Saimin? Yes there's quite a bit of reused assets, but I thought that was overall pretty decent and enjoyed the cutesy meta-shenanigans at the beginning in order to get to the true game.

I've played that game, but I did not like that part - confused the heck out of me.

Also, the scenarios again weren't good in my opinion and they took the choices a bit too far. In Saimin Yuughi the choices were A/B and whenever you chose A for the first 3 choices, it was game over. This time they alternate, but almost every wrong choice makes you see the game over screen. They could have made it go different endings, but they did not. In the end it was better than Saimin Inchou, but only marginally.
