Is this going to affect anyone?

THAT is one of the people I listen to, mostly because he's got more Common Sense than most media outlets. Not to mention easier on the ears because he makes jokes in his videos.

If you're anything like me, the Virtue Signaling is getting annoying because it is getting out of hand. It was annoying during the '80s, it's annoying now.

But if you look at the attached links for the new guidelines and source of this news, it is a bit disconcerting.

So does that affect anyone here? I'm curious.

I know some artists who were freaking out about it and if things get worse then people will be forced to use that alternative.

A friend kept suggesting I use it for my stories...so this kills that plan.

Be careful, this forum is infested with rabid SJWs who will attack you for complaining about stuff like virtue signaling and shoving regressive left politics into everything.

It has nothing to do with virtue signalling. It's the banks and credit card companies that process this stuff. They refuse to deal with weird porn. This is the same shit that almost made Mind Control Comics/Theater go out of business several years ago, and has caused a lot of other sites to lose their source of income.

Because you are clearly speaking from a point of rational thought and have no emotional bias whatsoever.

I'm reminded of the big Fetlife Kerfluffle where a lot of stuff got removed and the explanation given was that the site's bank accounts and Point Of Sale capabilities would be taken away if there wasn't a content purge. I wouldn't be surprised if Patreon may be (at risk of) going through something similar.

[ETA: Got beaten to the punch because I was too busy mulling. Ah well. Cheers to the victor]

Hahaha. Gotta laugh at the idea of anyone using the term virtue signaling un-ironically

Ding ding ding. Correct answer. Clips4Sale had a similar thing happen for the same reason

I'm not saying you shouldn't be upset, but I figure you should be along the lines of "aw, my favorite store closed" upset.

The problem with the payment processor hypothesis is that sites are typically more than happy to explicitly point the blame at the payment processors. I imagine it's a win-win, the payment processor gets to say they support wholesome values or somesuch and the website gets a convenient (and often nebulous) effigy for its users to hurl epithets at. The lack of such blame would then naturally lead one to look elsewhere for explanations. That said, there are other possible reasons for the lack of such blame, like Patreon possibly large enough to have people following creators that are fanatical and savvy enough to find and attack the payment processors.

I think that's a valid counter, and one that I've thought of, but there are two things about that:

1) The other sites we mentioned are all primarily AO, so everyone from the top down already knows the score; there's a reason transgressive themes are, well, transgressive, and that people wanting to remove content with those themes comes with the territory. It sucks, but it happens. Patreon is all audiences, so it's possible that the true answer will just lead to more questions and eventually create a situation that isn't good for business or morale

2) Assuming it is another entity that's telling Patreon to do this, then this is a hostage negotiation and there's no guarantee the terms won't change if something unexpected happens. Assume Patreon did the content purge and did say "they made us do it." The other entity could still see that as a slight and do something that's detrimental to Patreon's business. Hell, for all we know, the cost of doing business for Patreon may be going up anyway, and all they did was keep their head down.

The issue is mostly that porn is a legal landmine for the companies purveying it. Professional live-action porn is "safer" in that there are a lot of industry checks, but amateur stuff and drawn porn can lead to a whole raft of issues that no company would want to deal with.

Frankly i'm surprised the patreon gravy train lasted as long as it did. But i'm certain other outlets will step up and fill the void.

Having done some quick research for personal reasons, I feel like small potato artists might switch to Ko-Fi or perhaps find ways to exploit GoFundMe. Though I'd be unsurprised if either a 2nd sub model alternative showed up or everyone learns how to spin.

considering one of the most popular pieces of medium featured prominently on this site is an exclusively patreon funded game based around themes of incest and non-consensual sexual activities i honestly expected a bit more of a fucking stink about this instead of tap dancing around the issue. a lot of great artists and creators making fringe content had a place to finally express themselves and make money off of their work and now they don't have that anymore. far as i'm concerned it goes against everything patreon is about and it's bullshit.
