Card Games On Discord?
Title sums it up well but to elaborate, I'd like to know if anyone thinks it's possible to play card games via discord?
Not via discord, but you have other options. OCTGN, untap.in, lackeyCCG, etc... all free, iirc

Could any of these websites be used to create a PvP experience involving an original card game created solely from scratch or perhaps an existing card game with adapted rules like, say, fan-made Yu-Gi-Oh cards made with Yu-Gi-Oh card maker with hypnosis elements to them?

Yes, I think Lackey allows that.
As for genuine Yugioh experiences, YGOPRO2 is an (admittedly gray area of legality) game that is basically real Yugioh online. However the game ONLY plays yugioh. The other options I listed allow for multiple card games, like MTG, Vanguard, Final Fantasy, etc... I don't know of any places that allow Weiss Schwarz or Buddyfight. I know Pokemon and Dragonball Super have their own sites/clients as well.
Back when cardfight vanguard was new i used to play other through skype using a webcam poited at my table to show the cards so i'm pretty sure discord could do the same.
Buddyfight and Vanguard have their own clients (cardfight.ru/). For YGO, DevPro/Percy is automatic. Duel Monsters Genesis on BYOND is manual but it requires using BYOND (but since it's manual you can proxy things easily, and certain admins can produce items that rewrite card text for you).
If you want completely custom cards, then modifying a Lackey plugin is a good starting point; I've also done that before in the past. Hit me up on Discord if you want to chat in more detail; I'm Ace of Aces#0306.
EDIT: Pokemon TCG also has an online client (I'm actually looking for people to play with because playing Standard with randoms is disgusting), and Force of Will used to but it looks like they shut it down.
