Have to say that I'm postively surprised, they are actually going for something fun and self-aware (so already better than the... what is it now... 23rd anime pokemon movie?) and the detail they put into it goes off the charts. Also they actually feature Mons from Gen 3-7 too.

I mean just look at the official poster, if that doesn't speak for a love of everything Pokemon then I don't know what does:

Also, how much money did WB have to fork over to Game Freak to get the rights to do this!?!

Also also, unlike a lot of other live-action movie versions of animated properties, I can actually understand why this one is being made, since I'm guessing Toei hold the rights to all things animated Pokemon.

The Geninjas look so cool! I really like the idea of them being antagonistic assassins hunting the heroes. Overall the film just looks like a lot of fun and looks like it'll explore interesting and pretty mature concepts in the pokemon world like underground battling. I also really like the story behind the main character and the idea that there are so many people in the world of pokemon who have to give up their dreams of being a pokemon master and work a mundane job for the rest of their life. I really hope they delve into that idea and how it affects someone. Even despite all the interesting themes it still looks like a fun ride too.

And ya this would be Number 23 if you count the Mewtwo Remake next year as 22nd which now I can't remember which was announced first

But ya I played Detective Pikachu this year my last 3ds game and I'm excited with what they can do with it. I'll be optimistic and heck see it on opening day...still keeping my expectations in check though.

I personally think Ryan Pikachu-nolds is adorable, and that voice acting Pikachu is the perfect role for him, after Deadpool.

He has a really expressive voice, which is exactly what a good voice actor needs. It's one of the main reasons why he is so good as Deadpool too (let's be honest, half of playing Deadpool is essentially a voice acting gig), so I am not surprised that they hired him, in addition to them going for a film noir and 80s neon/Cyberpunk aesthetic and the Pikachu needing an adult voice anyway.

Psyduck is already there as the female protagonist's pokemon. I wonder if his hypno power will be in play even though we already saw him using his psychic explosion in the trailer. Also other pokemon with hypno power.
