Why are shota and loli blacklisted by default? Why ONLY them?

From what I have heard, part of the reason behind the creation of this site was because the old one outright banned lolicon/shotacon posts. So why would one make a booru specifically to allow lolicon/shotacon, but then blacklist those tags by default?

One could argue 'because they can be considered by many to be gross fetishes,' but one can argue the same about scat, furry, nightmare_fuel, etc., and none of those are blacklisted by default.

So what is the reasoning behind it?

Because loli/shota is illegal in a lot of countries. Also, they aren't the only tags on the default blacklist anymore. I believe "death" is, as well as some others.

Basically what Mindwipe said, but I believe seizure_warning is another default blacklist. Also if you don't like it in your blacklist, you can remove it.

I've gotta agree with the opening post, I get why all four of these are blacklisted by default, but I also have to agree that it seems rather strange that there are no more tags blacklisted from the get-go. Some of the stuff on this site, especially concerning some art with animals, is just as worthy of a default blacklist as loli, shota, death and seizure_warning from my point of view.

exactly, Beastiality should be blocked automatically, that's illegal too

I think bestiality is actually quite dependent on where you live - I know in the US at least, that varies a lot by state, whereas pedophilia is definitely more universally illegal.

US: 45/50 states outlaw the act; DC has it legal; it's illegal for any members of the Armed Forces
-porn distribution, which this site would likely qualify as, that's a grey area, only 4 states have it outright legal, most others are unknown; but there are states where it is illegal
-as for possession, only Oregon and the Virgin Islands has it being illegal; so anyone living there might want to be careful and add it to their blacklist

but since there are areas where it's illegal, unless the admins of the site decide to start having the filter set by location, it might be for the best to block possibly illegal tags (I also don't think it'd currently be possible for them to do it by location without major reworkings to the sign up process, work that would surely be headache inducing)

but I can also see the downside of this argument, some countries have homosexuality being illegal, so that would mean Yaoi and Yuri would have to be put on the BL if porn of that is illegal there

Pedophilia, yes. Well, child molestation/abuse and the owning and spreading of recordings of such acts, if you want to get pedantic, since pedophilia itself is essentially just a paraphilia. Not sure of the second and third world, but in the first world the official implementation of thoughtcrime will have to wait a little while longer at least.
Loli/shota, not so much. Last I checked a lot of countries will permit non-photorealistic depictions leaning on freedom of expression. Some countries do criminalize it, for instance what I've read Canada and Norway don't allow anything that sexualizes children, but largely speaking obviously ficticious works are in the clear. Not sure where the line for drawn beastiality is located, but I'd wager it's largely the same deal as there's no immediate victim, human or otherwise.

Drawn images of bestiality are not illegal in most places that I know of. Drawn loli/shota is, though. Our default blacklist only has what it absolutely needs, and it should stay that way.

yeah, agreement there, if we block everything that's illegal, we'd likely end up with too much on the blacklist automatically

some drugs aren't legal, but you find dealers for them in every state

Yeah I suppose but, I mean at least around where I live, it's super obvious who the (ahem) Escorts are and where they tend to hang out and or walk, so they are being like pretty blatant, obviously not announcing it for the world to hear but mmmm yeah. As for drugs yes I do concede that, I mean I haven't seen someone roll out the Lemonade stand selling crack or something lol.
