General Anime Discussion Thread
Does a thread like this already exist?
No matter!!! You can never have too many of these sorts of threads!!
There're too many anime that I want to talk about and not enough people I can talk about them with and by not enough I mean 0.
So I'm making a thread to discuss any anime the viewing patrons of this site have ever taken an interest in.
I suppose cartoons are also acceptable to discuss but the main point of this thread is anime.

As always I'll let someone else make the first post, so... begin!

Several folks on the IRC (myself included) have been watching Space Dandy on Saturday nights. We've even had a couple nights where we discussed the show as we watched and continued to make jokes about it the next day. I think the general consensus amongst us is that it's really stupid in a hilariously cool sort of way.

I rarely enjoy anime. It's not that I don't like the art style (I actually love most anime styles.) but te plots tend to let me down after a while they never stay consistent. I loved last exile however

you probably just have to find the right anime for you, some of them have less episodes and really tight plots. personally i started off by watching movies more so than anything.

I watched Madoka Magica Rebellion in theatres... twice... I really liked it.

I agree with deep sea, most anime is pretty much dribble and hard to get into to but there are a lot of gems in the rough.
I started off watching mindless happy highschool moeblob stuff until I accidentally picked up Madoka thinking it was similar. My descent into madness and anime only got worse after that.
What sort of genres are you into? Fantasy? Scifi? Romcom? Drama? we can probably suggest a few titles depending on your taste if you want.

Has anyone here seen Humanity Has Declined? It's what I'm about to watch next.

Even though I mostly enjoy cute girl slice-of-life comedies (my username is a minor character in STRAWBERRY MARSHMALLOW), I am enjoying SPACE DANDY. It's a show that knows what it is, straightforward dumb fun in space, and that's enough for me. But I'm someone who liked the fun parts of COWBOY BEBOP and not so much the serious parts that more high-minded anime fans put on a pedestal, and SPACE DANDY is like a whole series of just the fun bits of COWBOY BEBOP without the gravitas and that suits me just fine.

If your looking for a good portal to find series you might like I would recommend MyAnimeList, useful since they link series by what's a sequel, adaption or spinoff of what. Though as a result the list of things I want to watch is stupidly long now.

There are 2 shows right now that I really like. This is more of a recommendation than a bid for discussion because I'm pretty sure no one here has seen any of these.

The first one is Tokyo Majin. This is a show that I both love with a passion but also possess a large amount of frustration for. The basic setup is nothing new. Demons are running amok in tokyo and 5 high schoolers, each one from different social circles, must use their new found spiritual powers to fight them off under the guidance of a reclusive antique store owner. The show is actually really dark and has this very sad undertone. The characters also have alot of heart to them and its hard not to get invested in the whole thing. Well, for the first half at least. The second half of the series suffers from alot of pacing issues and is a classic case of trying to do too much with too little. Another thing I'd like to mention is that the monster designs are really cool, some actually being scary at times (the "Hole Girl" episode is so far my favorite design in the series).

The second is Utawarerumono. It's based on an old Visual Novel and is the story about a man with a mysterious mask being found unconscious in the forest by two girls from a small village. The man, Hakuroh, has no memory of who he is and part of the show's story is about finding out his identity and why he can't remove his mask. The other part of the story is about Hakuroh slowly becoming the leader of a rebel faction against a corrupt government and later about the aftermath of said rebellion as he tries to deal with other countries who attempt to invade his adopted homeland. The story features a really huge-ass twist towards the end that has alot of fans split down the middle on how they felt about it.

Kill La Kill has been one hell of a ride, and seems to be only picking up speed from here on out. It's hard to discuss it past episode 10 because of spoilers, so I'll drop some general points:

* Playing around with villain vs. hero themes; Ryuko gets stuck with the Attack! Retreat! cycle of behaviour for a while despite being the protagonist, and Sanageyama gets a mid-episode power-up (and how) despite being the subordinate of an antagonist.
* An even spread of good and bad traits makes for interesting characters.
* The few completely evil characters are fun to hate.

* Action scenes start out intense and quickly progress to insane.
* Plot twists of comparable character to the action scenes.
* The soundtrack. <<www.youtube.com/watch?v=c5Ka0WFqftA | See,>> <<www.youtube.com/watch?v=IiefOJ1Li8c | hear,>> <<www.youtube.com/watch?v=YPhDKtefc2U | speak,>> <<www.youtube.com/watch?v=5nckqVPSejk | and do,>> <<www.youtube.com/watch?v=abxRjEAqP_A | no evil.>>

* Satsuki and Ryuko fight half-naked for the intimidation factor, while Aikuro uses his body for distraction purposes. Because why the hell not?
* Oglers who didn't get the above memo naturally make fools of themselves, rather than resorting to tired slapstick routines.
* Creepy things are played for creepiness rather than titillation.
Not to say Kill La Kill is entirely without fanservice or fault, of course. It's just a little more refined than it would appear to be at first glance.
If you haven't given it a look, watch at least the first 4:25 of the first episode. It's a pretty good sample of the show's feel.

Lol I agre with most of this list. The rest of it I haven't watched yet XD

Also I recommend irresponsible captain Tylor if you like sci-ci comandy.

This show has spark a debat about the main character that has lasted even to this day.
And the anime n came out in the late 80s early 90s.

It may be old but it's great
