Do I keep my smut separate, or let the freak flag fly?
So, here’s my dilemma.

I’ve started writing some smut. And it’s fun, it’s been quite a while since I did longform NSFW writing for myself instead of just as RP stuff.

But I need to post it somewhere, unless I want it to languish in a virtual drawer. And all the places I would have used before (read: Tumblr) are dead and gone.

Which means I need to start over.

Here’s the wrinkle. I’ve got a semi-established SFW identity, doing some SFW fiction and the like. So I could either build a whole new set of platforms and accounts under the Sin Knighteye name...

Or, just, like...do it under my ‘main’ name. Which would be a lot easier, but also introduces a lot of new wrinkles. It means my kinks being more exposed, and we all know that hypnosis in general can run afoul of the Discourse at times.

But on the flip side, I’m already spread pretty thin in terms of all that social media attention-getting stuff. I dabble in too many things to get much attention on me as it is, because I can’t make enough content in any one place. Separating off a subset of my writing under a totally separate identity just makes that problem worse.

And a lot of the services and apps, don’t really play well with multiple accounts. Something like Twitter is basically alright with managing a few accounts via the app, but their website is poor about it, and then something like Wordpress is actively terrible at dealing with more than one account, including only letting one account be associated with an email. So splitting off the identities, if I’m gonna do an independent Wordpress site, means needing a whole new email and a whole bunch of other stuff that I then have to keep up with. I would be practically doubling my workload, having to create a whole new self, instead of just being able to hook into the naughty services as Sin Knighteye and the not-naughty services under my other name.

It’s a mess, is what I’m saying. And I’m just straight up not sure which direction to lean.

But what do you all think? What do you do with this situation? Are you running your ‘main’ name and identity here, or do you have a pornsona that only comes out in the naughty places?

Thanks for any help or thoughts you can give.

Early on, I tried to do the two identities thing, splitting my SFW personality and work and my NSFW one. It was a lot of extra work, and wasn't very fun or satisfying to maintain two presences that were separated from each other.

I would suggest that if you are able to fuse the two, you should. Sometimes it might not be a good idea, such as if your family or close friends whom have particularly prudish standards is directly involved in watching your work, but otherwise, you really don't have much to lose by being yourself.

It's always a better idea to divide between two or more identities instead of decoupling your SFW-world and NSFW-world at the moment when you' got exposed/shamed/caught.

It's very hard to get a new identity IRL (as in passport, new full name, new home). While setting up a new e-mailaccount is a piece of cake compared to that.

I can't imagine any situation in which you would need to change your name and go into hiding because you drew or wrote smut on the internet. If it's legal where you live, the worst thing that would likely happen would be that you might lose a "friend" who gets offended that you know sex exists and want to make stuff involving sex.

Honestly, it depends on one simple matter to me: Does anyone you know who you don't want seeing your nsfw stuff watch your sfw stuff even just once in a blue moon?

If no, it's probably safe to do it under the main name. If so, don't risk it even thought two identities will be a bit more effort.

If you do end up making a separate account, there are a few easy places to make a double identity, like MC Stories or Archive of Our Own.

It really depends on what you want. For example, do you want to keep your NSFW work away from people you know irl ? If yes, then two account are the best choice.

If that's not a problem, then it's also a bit about how you see your own work, if you think of it (and want people to see it) as a whole or as one part SFW and one part NSFW.

I'm kind of struggling to explain, so I'll talk of myself a bit : My main work is...well let's say SFW althrough it's often horror and disturbing stuff. That's the work I'd want to be known for ( if I get known for something ) and what I consider my "main" thing. That point of view is also supported by my productivity : I make a ton of drawings pretty often about "SFW" characters and stories, but I really don't manage to draw as much and well anything NSFW, so I end up posting a very small amount of drawings here.

And, to go bak on the "what you want" -thing, well, as far as NSFW is concerned, I'm more than happy with a second "artist name" and posts only here. I mean heck, I've only recently scanned and coloured a kinky drawing, and all I wanted was a place to post it, where it would be far enough from my irl friends and family, but still relatively easy to find for people it might interest.

In my case, since I post a lot less of "naughty" stuff, then having two separate accounts really isn't a problem.

So That's kind of it. I have to admit, I don't have problems with posting a lot on my "official" account, and welp I've never really pressured myself about it either. I know people say concistency matters, but I think you should just post things you're proud of / want to share. People can wait when they realize posting few times means more quality. ( heck I've been forgetfull and lazy about posting on both of my accounts and never heard a thing, aaaah, the perks of not being known)

Sorry I kinda wrote a lot, I hope it helps in some way.
