So, Persona 5 Royal! Yeah! I got it, been playing the hell out of it, and I adore it so much. Who's gotten it? What are you thinking? Those who have gotten farther than me ([spoiler=Not the biggest spoiler exactly, but just to be safe]I only just beat Kamoshida, haven't even gotten to May 2nd yet[/spoiler]), how much else is different and do you like what's different? Who else got the special edition? Let's get chattin' and heart stealin'!


EDIT: I would like... to apologize... for my opening paragraph. That... was torture to you all, I'm sure, but it must be recorded. History's greatest disasters deserve to be remembered so we may learn from them.

I've just finished Palace 3. Now, in fairness, I've logged more hours in the original P5 than I care to admit. Just know it's absurd.

So for me I can easily go "That's new dialogue!" or "That line wasn't voiced last time!"

And the changes in combat are orgasmic. They're things I didn't think I needed, but now that I have them I don't think I can go back.

As for the new stuff they added... so far it's fantastic. I haven't hit anything TOO major yet. But there are... erh... 2 and a half new confidants and I love one and half of them and am okay with the other.

Also, playing the Tycoon mini-game with the waifu and bros has absorbed my life.

Oh! And Colors Flying High and Take Over are great. I prefer Take Over to Last Surprise. I still like Wake Up, Get Up, Get Out there more than Colors but I still love it. It's P5 music. So it has to be good.

The music... hm. I mean, I hold Take Over and Last Surprise equally (especially since I hear them interchangeably in dungeons), and the intro songs are equal as well. They go for different things than their counterparts, and they hit them equally exceptionally. However, the original OP was SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much better than Royal's. The animation, the style, the cohesive nature of it, it had the Velvet Gang, and let's be honest, ice skating down monochrome empty highways while wearing single-toned, saturated, varied colors of clothing and hair is a much better visual metaphor for "fuck society" than smashing buildings with hammers and baseball bats in choppy animation. Plus, how cohesive it isn't. What happened to the heart they were stealing at the beginning? What if that had carried through, and then the crew were watched by Kasumi from afar, who then starts walking in the rain and dancing, then it cuts the the crew doing something that says "fuck society" while still taking that heart. The ending with Joker transitioning back to reality via subway car wipe was masterfully done, but that's about it.

So pretty major P5R spoilers, but this is something I really don't like that they've done...

I hate that Kasumi, who was a major promotional point, is barely in the game. Like, she's borderline not in the game. She has 5 confidant scenes within the first 7 palaces, and like 5 actual in-game scenes. When she gets her Persona she just opts to not help, then when she ASKS to help the game is like "Sorry. But we aren't going to allow you to recruit her... oh? Did you WANT new party members? That's a shame." It really bugs me because it feels like false advertising, and she unfortunately ends up as just worse Haru as far as screen time goes. She's barely a character. It sucks.

That said, I love the rest of the additions. So ya'know.

I mean, it's a sort of all-encompassing thing. An overall issue with a plot element. So I wouldn't click yet if I were you.

Ah, got it, got it. I almost regret getting that free DLC, though. I mean, Yusuke in the Gekkoukan outfit is the most perfect thing I have ever experienced that I can't figure out why it's so perfect, but getting the Personas I did added to the registry (with a free first-time summon, I might add), at the levels they were at... it kinda broke the game in half. Luckily, I got a hold of myself and deleted/fused them off, leaving myself just with Orpheus for some fire coverage, and giving my other personas some Bless, Curse, and Nuke coverage.

I played the original p5 and loved it.
Is it really worth the investment to buy the same game on the same console?
Like are the changes that big?
A friend wants to split the price with me and play through it together but idk if its worth it.

I think it might be, actually. I mean, it beats playing the original again and reliving that spectacular experience exactly as it was before. Now, you relive it in ways that makes you feel like this is what they were going for initially, but they felt the fans had waited long enough.

Jose and the changes to Mementos are proof enough of that.

Here once again to partially revive this chat, but also to vent some feelings.

I have not played P5R in quite a bit. I'm only now on June 14th.

I've gone through NG+ as of now and I do have to say, they managed to make my favorite game even better.

And I agree. Akechi is one of my favorite characters and the new revamped confidant is fucking amazing.

Shoutouts to Robbie Daymond, man. One of the best performances in video games. He just knocked it out of the PARK.

Omgg i just live for this precious Detective Prince^^ and it makes me happy to see others like his character as well. Anybody else out there stanning for the Second Coming of the Detective Prince?
