Hypno Status Effects in Games
Hello Everyone,

I wanted to make this Thread as a Compilation of Hypno related Status Effects in Games. You know, stuff Like Charm, Sleep, Confusion, all that stuff.

I want to know any kind of Unique or Different Way these things have been used since Dragon Quest has been on my Mind a lot lately and that has stuff Like the Usual Sleep and Charm but also sometimes Enemies can cause your Characters to Dance and skip a Turn.

That’s the kind of stuff I’m curious about, i don’t know how long this thread will go or if this has been done before but i would like some examples from other games whether they be RPGs or some other genre.

Thank you for your Attention!

Breath of Fire series have a command where you can command Confused/Berserk characters to attack specific enemies (BoF 3 was specially useful since your out of control characters can attack even allies).

The animation tends to be a speech buuble saying something like "Yes sir"

I remember in one level of the Iron Man game for the PS2, one guy occasionally did that, making your controls work backwards.

There's a game called Odyssey of Gianna, for which hypnostatus effects are basically the main theme (or at least, the main theme of the current demo). And there's a shitton of them.

If you want more mainline games, in Skyrim you can count the status effects (spell or poison) that forces mobs & NPCs to flee, stop fighting, or even attack their allies.

In Saints Row 4 you have a power that also turns NPCs into your allies.

FTL: Faster Than Light has a ship component that can force crew members to destroy their own ships, and both you or enemies can get it.

The Sims (at least 3 and 4, I haven't played 1 and 2) have various hypno things in DLCs (Hypno show machine, vampires, wizards, genies, voodoo dolls...) and the for gameplay purposes the mind control manifests itself as a status effect

And my last one is really far-fetched, but in Peggle you have a power that forces your aim to change in order to improve your shot.

Shin megami tensesi series has the spell Marin Karin which inflicts charm status
also other spells that might count for hypnosis but involves different status effects, one them being the base spells dormina which inflicts sleep.

There are higher rank spells that inflict these status like sexy dance inflicting charm on a group of people or paral eyes which inflicts paralysis on a group and Lullaby which inflicts sleep on a group.
There is even a spell that inflicts happy on people though I don't remember what happy does

Ah yes, Marin Karin. The skill that plagues players of Persona 3 FES who have Mitsuru on their team.

Fire Emblem has the berserk staff, which causes any unit hit by it to attack anything in their range, ally or enemy, regardless of whether that will result in the unit killing itself against something too powerful for it. It's...pretty annoying to deal with sometimes.

Clssic sleep in pokémon, always annoyed me that hypnosis didn't allow you to command the target when I was little x: there's also confusion and a move called instruct which does allow you to control the target in a way, although it is rather used on your partner in double battles to allow multiple attacks in a single turn.

Dragon Quest 11 has the "dance" status effect that forces your party members to dance. (Are you surprised?)

Subnautica has a creature called the "Mesmer" that hypnotizes you into coming closer to it in an attempt to eat your face

Assassin's Creed Syndicate has a side quest where your character is hypnotized by a guy with a pocket watch.

The first Megaman Starforce has a decent bit of mind control in it, with both Sonia and Luna getting mind controlled and manipulated by FMians

A couple of those weren't really "status effects" before, so sorry for that.

Castlevania: Harmony of Despair was an XBL and PSN title with multiple playable characters across the series. The female cast can be charmed by the final boss, Dracula, with accompanying voice lines such as: "What a hunk!" or "Lord Dracula..." in a wanting tone

What helps to keep in mind with the Berserk status is that the unit will only attack allies if they are the weakest unit within their range.

In super pokemon mystery dungeon, if a pokemon is inflicted by hypnosis, the game states something around the lines "<pokemon> is being puppetted against its allies!", and like it says that pokemon will attack allies and not hurt enemies.

If the player is the one affected, you lose all control over them during this. Depending on the pokemon this can be pretty hot.

Darkest Dungeon features a boss fight in which one of your characters may be "charmed" to the enemy's side for a bit.

Do you happen to remember the name of the boss?
