Crackin' Open the D-Vault
Howdy-doody my people, GRRRRRRRRREAT to be back.

So I wake up, I'm doing good, and then it strikes me.

That mood.

The DISNEY mood.

I've been blasting all the best tunes all morning, playing some Kingdom Hearts, the works! I am having a Disney day. So in the spirit, let's commemorate my first new topic in a loooong while with the one thing that's been around for all of us for the looooongest while: Disney songs! What're your favorites? Why? What movies are your favorites because of them? Let's discuss it all.

<<www.youtube.com/watch?v=yZAY-78zhmw|Friends on the Other Side, from the Frog Princess>>. Both the first and the reprise.

I admit to never having watched it, but I've seen the video for this song and just find it such a delightful villain song. It perfectly sums up Dr. Facilier's character as con man with big ambitions and supernatural connections.

<<www.youtube.com/watch?v=aTqHbiE0vl8|Then there is the reprise.>> There is something equally satisfying and horrifying in watching Facilier getting dragged, kicking and screaming, off to the Other Side by his "friends" as the shadow man finds himself on the other end of a deal gone wrong. And the best part? It's all ultimately the result of his own actions that he winds up so screwed.

<<www.youtube.com/watch?v=grVzHu-_LcU|Never had a Friend like me, from Aladdin.>> <<www.youtube.com/watch?v=1at7kKzBYxI|Both the Robin Williams and Will Smith versions.>>

Aladdin is one of my favorite Disney movies and I enjoyed it, it's sequels, and the television series. I have yet to actually watch the live-action remake though.

I also actually like that in Will Smith's version Genie actually needs to be reminded what Aladdin's name is. I think that actually help conveys how ancient Genie really is and how he's been through countless other Masters.

Interesting idea for a thread, and I know I'm gonna sound like a killjoy (also, I'm not a mod, so I have no authority for this), but I'd suggest changing the title - it's quite vague and not really related to what you're asking here.

Personally, I really liked You're Welcome, from Moana. And this might be an unpopular opinion at this point, but I still kinda like Let It Go.

If we consider Pixar movies to be Disney, then I gotta mention You've Got a Friend in Me, and the soundtrack from Coco.

And of course, honorable mention to all the really cool villain songs from the various movies. Favorites being Be Prepared (obviously), Poor Unfortunate Souls and Savages from Pocahontas. That last one's fairly racist, but pretty damn kickass anyway. Since Nightmare Before Christmas has technically been reissued by Disney, I guess Oogie Boogie's Song also counts.

(This isn't a Disney movie, but Anastasia's In the Dark of the Night is also really freaking cool).

Let It Go is a perfectly fine song in isolation. Never mind the fact that its existence completely derailed the entire production of the movie, leaving any shred of quality that exists in the final product a happy accident...

Almost every song in Moana slapped like a roast turkey with a leather whip on a Saturday night, so there's that.

As for Pixar, I didn't INTEND on Pixar, but the sheer nostalgic pull of You've Got a Friend in Me is too much to deny; those first two films were everything to me. And Woody's Roundup still gets me choked up with nostalgia.

I'll be sure to check out Anastasia... eventually. I still haven't seen it.

And it didn't even need to be said that the villain songs are the best parts of everything. Even if Nightmare breaks my personal trend because I prefer This is Halloween and Jack's Lament over Oogie Boogie's Song, I can't deny the holy trinity of Hellfire, Be Prepared, and Shiny making every other (still great) song in their respective movies look like peasants.

Have you heard Yzma's song <<www.youtube.com/watch?v=N1pYGvplG5Q|Snuff Out the Light>>? It was from the early versions of The Emperor's New Groove when it was called Kingdom of the Sun. It never made the cut along with most of the story and animation but the song still survives.

Oh yeah, I heard about that! Never listened to it, but I have heard about Kingdom of the Sun. I'll give it a listen now.
