The Spiral Pirates' Maiden Voyage Through The New World
Heso, fellow pirates! I'm back with the cheesy forum intros!
You have been warned.
Finally having subscribed to ViZ, I'm actually working through One Piece at a consistent pace now! Having dropped it some months ago around the Return to Sabaody, I'm blasting through it online at a consistent pace. I'm about to start chapter 810 now, and I'm getting rather sick of having no one to talk to in order to release the pressure valve that is the pent-up emotions and excitement that One Piece tends to inspire. So, forum time! Anyone else working through it? Anyone caught up wanna chat me about Punk Hazzard and Dressrosa, which I've just completed? Let's discuss! We shall be Hypnohub's finest, the Spiral Pirates!

I volunteer for the position of cook and slave trainer. If there is one on the crew.

Also, ever notice there is a running theme of in any fight when Luffy busts out a new gear?

Luffy: This is my new Gear Nth!
Victim: You look ridiculous.
Luffy: Gum Gum...
Victim: That attack won't do anything to me.
Luffy: Gear Nth Pistol!
Victim: I WAS WRONG! I WAS HORRIBLY!! HORRIBLY WRONG!!!

Also, I've done some ideas involving a Hypno-Hypno Fruit you know...

I wanna eat it. You can break the slaves, I can make 'em. I'm no fighter. I'm like a less-strong Joseph Joestar, you're a kinkier Sanji.

Alright, I guess this forum serves TWO purposes now: Creating the Spiral Pirates for real AND talking One Piece as I read through it.
But now that you mention it, yeah the Gears do end up being like that don't they? I mean, it's been spoiled for me for years now, but I only got to Gear 4 yesterday! And it actually FELT powerful! Like, I seriously did not realize that One Piece hadn't lost its touch at commanding respect for new levels of power. That was a great realization.

Also a great realization was that, most likely, the reason Dressrosa stuck so hard so fast was because it kinda took a LOT of cues from Alabasta, my favorite arc; less in an Episodes-IV-and-VII kind of way, and more in a Toy Story 2-and-3 kind of way. The birdcage was such an intense finale, all the insane... INSANITY all the way through, the family drama concerning King Riku, Kyros, and Rebecca, and that GOD-FORSAKEN FLASHBACK TO DOFLAMINGO PUPPETEERING RIKU'S BODY THAT NEARLY MADE ME VOMIT. THAT IS GOOD VILLAIN SETUP. WOOOOOOOOOW.

Man, my passion's been reinvigorated. Luffy vs Crocodile still hasn't been overtaken, but the New World's in my good graces. Also, since I'm there, the four red Ponegliffs! The end is in sight! They can get to Raftel... once they get through Candy Hag and the guy who tries to kill himself but can't because he's just that strong...
On the subject of the crew, we need a figurehead blissed-out concubine, a navigator, and a doctor. Who do we nominate?
I feel like Dressrosa was foreshadowed during the War of the Best. Remember when Doffy tried to convince Crocodile to team-up, and Crocodile refused outright? I get the feeling Croco didn't want to work with a guy who had managed to pull off a similar scheme... and SUCCEEDED!

As for Gear Foooooouuuuuurthhhhhhhh
Yeah, Oda hasn't lost his touch in the slightest.
Also, I will give Doflamingo props: Remember the formula I mentioned earlier? That fight was more like:

Luffy: Gear 4th!
Doffy: Wow! You look laughably ridiculous. Is this really your trump card?
Luffy: You bet. I'm gonna kick your ass with it!
Doffy: Really, as somekind of bouncing man? How are-
Luffy: GUM GUM...
Doffy: Is he making AUDIBLE wind up noises?
Luffy: KONG...
Doffy: He just shaved in front of me? This is gonna hurt...
Luffy: GUN!!!
Doffy: *After being punched across Dressrosa, going through several buildings on the way* I was right... I was horribly... HORRIBLY... right!

Doffy is the first victim of a Gear to realize just how much everything was about to suck for him.

Do these nominees have to be fellow hubbers? Or can we nominate any One Piece characters? Because I can think of several gals who could be usable...

I'd prefer a Hubian, but a One Piece character wouldn't be off the table necessarily...

Concubine's just gotta be a pretty lady who gets herself under control a lot. We need someone intelligent and knowledgeable in tech to navigate us, and we need just someone capable and preferably nice to be the doctor (we can just say they know medicine along the way, no big deal).

Oh alright then, neat. So, who could be the navigator and doctor? Any suggestions?

Wow, I COMPLETELY forgot about this and its primary function of being my chronicle of the One Piece experience! Let's see, I've gone through a lot since I last commented, so... let's break it up as such.
Zou: What a GREAT mystery and setup for Whole Cake Island. All the questions that need answering, all the intrigue surrounding the elephant and the Mink race, the slow realizations of more about Sanji, an ACTUAL END-GOAL WITH THE PONEGLIFFS?! Brilliant. Feels like we're approaching the endgame. Also, "Raizo is okay!" is one of the most heartfelt moments in all of One Piece. Beautiful.

Whole Cake Island: ...Wow. Wow wow wow wow wow. Big Mom is TERRIFYING, this twisted inverted wonderland is creepier than Thriller Bark and Dressrosa combined, Big Mom has has more sex than I'm ever going to imagine if she has that many kids, the fact that she has that many kids is scary enough on its own considering her... physique... and even beyond her, this arc was wonderful! Sanji finally gets his post-timeskip due even after the Violet subplot from Dressrosa as he finally gets to showcase once again why he's so damn amazing (even if the five-head galaxy brain Mr Prince is still not back after Water Seven, but oh well), Snake-Man was cool, Katakuri now rivals Doflamingo and Croc for my favorite One Piece antagonist, and now Luffy's a damn EMPEROR. Bad. Ass.

The Reverie: error 404: sleeperhit.exe is not responding. The system has crashed due to:
over-saturation of sheer mindfucks.

Acts One/Two of Wano Kuni: This one's the most scattershot of these, easily. Not bad, just so many points of WHAT?! HUH?! NANIIIIIIIII?! That I can't properly contain my thoughts like the others. So...

TIME TRAVEL?! HUH
LUFFY IN PRISON? BADASS
OH WAIT SNAP ARMAMENT HAKI GETS AWAKENED FURTHER THAT'S COOL
WOAH WOAH WOAH SANJI'S INVISIBLE
OH WAIT KAIDO'S TERRIFYING
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO YAISUE NOOOOOOOOO
THE REVOLUTION IS BEGINNING
WAIT, ACTS?! IS THIS A STAGE PLAY NOW?!
WHAT ARE KID AND DRAKE DOING HERE I THOUGHT THE ONLY SUPERNOVA THAT WAS GOING TO BE SIGNIFICANT WAS LAW!
BIG MOM?! NANIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII?!
IS SHE ON OUR SIDE?!?!?!?!?!?! WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT?!

oh wait she's back to normal ok

WAIT SHE'S BACK TO NORMAL OH GOD RUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUN
Aaaaaaaaaaaaaand that's where I'm at. Fun.
So. Are we in agreement that Wano is easily the best post-timeskip material? I hope we're in agreement. It feels like Oda finally gave himself the right to SLOW THE FUCK DOWN and tell the story with a pacing that feels paced since... probably Thriller Bark, my god. And I know it's only because he wants to tell the story as a whole before he dies, but it honestly felt like the quality of the storytelling suffered for it. Not the story, the storytelling. Needs to be said.

Anyway, Wano was incredible! I love that the two prominent Haki colors have sort of "natural extreme" or evolved forms to them, what with the Observation to see the future and the power of overwhelming a target with an inwards attack of Armament Haki. Great progresstion. But speaking of the storytelling in Wano, reading the chapters about the Navy going over the emperors and then having such a long flashback to the days of Oden, Newgate, and Roger sent me way back to Skypiea. I swear, the pacing, the composition, the art from that point forward, everything just kicked into OVERDRIVE. That flashback is in my top three favorite sequences from One Piece. Masterful.

And then the rest of Wano is no slouch! Nothing filled me with as much dread as no one showing up for the raid, but not only did it get resolved by our boi JIMBEI, not only is Jimbei PROPERLY IN, but Kin forgot where to go for the raid. I laughed way too hard. And then the rest of Act III has been easy-to-follow, tense, and THE AKAYAZA ARE DOING DAMAGE TO KAIDO SLOW DOWN ODA SLOW DOWN WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT

Oh, wait... they didn't. OH GOD THEY DIDN'T NOOOOOO-
Also, having had time to process that which I've read, I can safely say that the Spiral Pirates- or more accurately I, the first mate (or captain, since I decided to try and bring this together) shall have a special concubine, and it's Carrot. Because Carrot best girl, holy shit.
