Captain Cuttlefish (real name Craig Cuttlefish) is a male Inkling and the leader of the New Squidbeak Splatoon. He lead the original Squidbeak Splatoon during the Great Turf War against the octarian|Octarians, octoling|Octolings and dj_octavio|Dj Octavio.
He recruits agent_3_(splatoon)|Agent 3 to the New Squidbeak Splatoon during the first Splatoon game, simply titled "Splatoon". The first person Captain Cuttlefish recruited to the New Squidbeak Splatoon was his granddaughter callie_(splatoon)|Callie, making Callie Agent 1. Callie then recruited her cousin marie_(splatoon)|Marie (who is also Captain Cuttlefish's granddaughter), making Marie Agent 2. Callie and Marie are also pop sensation the "Squid_Sisters|Squid Sisters"; their most famous song is called "Calamari Inkantation", a song that canonically breaks mind control.
Captain Cuttlefish then appears in splatoon_2|Splatoon 2's DLC "Octo-Expansion" where he meets an Octoling with no memories. However, he does not attempt to fight the Octoling as they were humming the song Calamari Inkantation while they was passed out. After, he and the Octoling meet an Artifical intellegence telephone (commander_tar_tar|Commander Tar Tar) who says the Octoling is "test subject 10,008". Captain Cuttlefish finds "Ten thousand and eight" too long for a name, and so he calls the Octoling agent_8_(splatoon)|Agent 8.
Later, Agent 8 and Captain Cuttlefish are lured into a giant blender after Agent 8 collects all 4 "thangs". Luckily, marina_(splatoon)|Marina manages to send an emergancy signal which is recieved by Agent 3. Agent 3 then manages to save Agent 8 and Captain Cuttlefish just in time; however, Agent 3 gets knocked out in the process. Captain Cuttlefish tells Agent 8 to carry on without them as he needs to stay with Agent 3 until they wake up.
On the way back to the surface, Agent 8 is confronted by Agent 3 who is being mind controlled by Commander Tar Tar using sanitized_ink|sanitized ink and Captain Cuttlefish has been tied up. Despite this, Agent 8 manages to save both Agent 3 and Captain Cuttlefish.
Agent 8, Agent 3 and Captain Cuttlefish make it back to the surface safely. However, the telephone reveals his true name is Commander Tar Tar and he reveals his true plan to destroy the world and start a new one. Agent 8, along side Agent_3_(splatoon)|Agent 3, Pearl_(splatoon)|Pearl, marina_(splatoon)|Marina and Captain Cuttlefish, manage to stop Commander Tar Tar and save the world.
In the latest splatoon_3|Splatoon 3 trailer, it is revealed Captain Cuttlefish has now retired and has promoted Agent 3 to leader of the New Squidbeak Splatoon.
